I picked this up the other day on steam while it was on sale for 20% off (devs said that was the lowest it would be in the sale). I'll say up front im not an rpg gamer. ive not played fallout games, baldurs gate games, ultima games, etc. Never had an interest really. Diablo3 was my first taste of an rpg (yes, its an arpg and divinity is a crpg). ive only played this about two hours so far but im really digging it. the level of detail is quite amazing. its a much more detailed and realized world compared to D3, my only real comparison. its also very complex so im still learning all the nuances of this kind of game like what all the 5 billion stats/traits/skills, etc actually mean but its a nice change of pace from what i normally play. i plan to play it mostly coop with a buddy which should be fun. Im hoping i can pick up basics while it is in beta as the final release on June 30 will not be compatible with old saves.

anyone else into this game? any tips for a n00b?

Yep, it's a refreshing look in the genre, cool gameplay, lots of customization for your characters. It's a really cool game in the "euro style" of RPGs (like Divinity).

I Kickstarted the game and glad I did. Can't wait for the release though so I can actually make progress in the game without having my saves swiped after each updates

I bought it on sale, and only tried it out for a little bit, because I'm waiting for the release (so no wipes). Let me state again, that I friggin hate when a game does that... you can play it now, but everything will be wiped. Starbound was similar, and imo a game should not be featured on a sale if they can't be bothered to write a simple function to convert saves.

I foresee this happening like the current crop of unfinished games being the norm now, and am not happy about it.

This is why 'Early Access' and 'Beta' games should not be sold to the general public.

Yep, bad publicity for misunderstanding the Early Access fine prints. I just hope this game gets the attention it deserves. The people behind it are clearly proud of their baby and pationate about DOS and it shows.

7 days is not that long of a wait

i dont really see it as a bad thing. maybe if i bought in earlier and played up to the end of the beta content but since i just got it, i dont mind. im using this time to try the different classes out and figure out the game. in my 2 hours spent with it so far, ive started it twice both times with different class characters to try them out.

I watched a total of 45 seconds of gameplay before I decided to buy this game. But I'm now glad I held off as I didn't know that it wouldn't save past the beta. I'll wait a few weeks & hope that it goes on sale at some point soon again (was on steam sale recently).

Looks extremely promising.

Played the beta again recently. I really hope they get their merchant system worked out better than the current beta. Everyone you talk to is effectively a mechant, which is fine. It opens a trade window. However if you switch characters it doesn't update the tooltips for comparing weapons vs what you have equipped. It doesn't have sufficient sorting options (like by what I can use). The big sin for me is that it doesn't maintain your inventory sorting. So I went through my character sheet and put all the stuff I wanted to sell on the bottom of the inventory. Go to sell and you can't use that view. The sorting gets lost and you have to end up sorting inventory again. Really really clunky for something you do so often in a RPG.

Also took awhile for me to figure out how to heal without burning through health potions. I kept looking for a camp option, inn keep or something. Turns out you just find an open bed and hop in. Would have saved me a few resurrect scrolls.

I just hope their internal beta is further along. Still feels very beta right now.

Steam needs an option to hide all early access games when you browse. And it should be on by default.

I don't think they want to, that's the problem. They are sort of competing with Kickstarter and such. They get kickback when people buy them there. I just wishlist games I'm interested in and ignore them until they are finished. It used to be I'd be glad to beta, but these days just don't have the time or patience and way too many other games to play.

There is nothing wrong with making early releases available and wiping on the final release if there's any reason to.

Customers just need to understand how it works and decide if they want to play that early release in that situation.

It's better that they're available to those who want that, than not available because some customers have a problem with not buying it until release who don't want that.

I kickstarted it, but I never play early access unless it's an MMO. It's actually contrary to my philosophy of waiting for at least one patch after release.

One cool thing is you probably don't need to wait for that one patch after release, since so many people have already spent so much time trying to break it. Of course there could still be problems later in the game that has not been seen yet.
Really, I think that if you wanted to wait the thing to wait for is community mods that will enhance that game, like better inventory management in shops, since that is the one thing I keep hearing people complain about (but perhaps we will all be surprised and they will have fixed that too come gold.)

D:OS was released on Early Access as Alpha and Beta states. Changes made during this time can and will make saves incompatible. Its the price you pay for playing prerelease software. Don't like it, then don't get in on Early Access titles.

I'd seriously suggest anyone buying it now just waits a few more days. It is released on the 30th and then any saves should be compatible.

I agree entirely. I feel as if that's the entire point. To help developers find out all the bugs and stuff so they can release it later.

Personally I'd rather play a game fully even if I've played it in alpha/beta or both. There's no reason to continue from a save when you know they've changed stuff. If you're gonna buy it you may as well play it when it's at it's best.

Secondly, you're completely retarded if you're going to buy an early access game and not at least expect a server wipe or two. Go back to to the 90's or just don't buy the game. What gets me is that it's something you can entirely prevent. If you know you're going to complain about server wipes and buy a game in early access, I hate you and you're everything that's wrong with people X3 [I'm looking at you JamesV.]

Unrelated to my last post, I bought Divinity on the last day of the steam sale (June 29th), knowing the servers would be wiped.

My first impressions of the game:
This is probably my first CRPG and I only played the beginning. Combat is a bit slow if you're used to faster paced games. However, I don't have any gripe with this game. It's pretty much like D&D on the computer (which I'm assuming is what CRPGs are like). Character customization was lacking, but controls were fairly intuitive. It is point and click to move which can get hassle-some but overall I really enjoyed the game.

At the very least you guys should check it out.

The game is live today!
If you are a KS supporter check your email, you should have an email from Larian on how to get your copy of digital game and the other digital items you might be due.
Hopefully I'll be playing tonight.

If you had the steam alpha the keys just rolled over to the retail version. No need to do anything. However your kickstarter goodies code is in your larian vault.

I pulled my GoG key through the Larian Vault, took a couple hours for it to show up on my GoG account though, they hadn't flipped the switch yet. Its there now though.

Edit - Second game I've KS'd to be released, but far larger than the previous title.

I will most certainly be playing this game tonight. I also do stream if anyone who hasn't purchased the game already wants to check it out before hand.

I just got to the first town and am liking it so far.

The only thing I don't get, is when I level up, I can't raise skills higher than 1? Any point in getting Witchcraft on a Wizard (can the Wizard then use Witchcraft spells)?

Maybe give everyone sneaking, or save the points you can't spend in your class skills for later?

Oh, and does anyone know if when reading books and being granted crafting recipes - is that for all characters, or only the one that read the book? Do you have to be careful and have a melee character read the book to craft plate?

Played and finished Divinity II recently so I'll probably grab this after it's been out for a bit. I'd prefer to get a lot of the bugs patched before I start.
