anybody check out this mod someone is doing for divinity original sin into the original Diablo? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70jtz4rsgj4
I'm just thinking, from ALL the old games that would be awesome to be remade in D : OS, I think Diablo would be below the bottom of the list. I mean, just out of the top of my head:
- The Gold Box games (Pool of Radiance series, Dragonlance series, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Buck Rogers)
- Arcanum
- Betrayal at Krondor
...
...
...
- Tic Tac Toe
...
...
...
- Wall Paint Dry Watching simulator
...
...
...
- Diablo

I'd......really like to replay arcanum one of these days. Someone remaking that on a modern engine would be a great idea, imho. I wonder if it would actually sell enough to justify it.

I suppose someone trying to remake it in the divos creator tool would be the best we could hope for. But, I certainly dont have the time or patience to do it myself

I'm missing something.. my level two toons have no chance at combat anywhere that I can seem to go. They are both useless and I'm ready to start over, but I don't have much interest in wasting 2 hours to get back to where I'm at. Not sure if I'm supposed to have 2 companions yet either.

level 2? did you go to the tutorial cave?
If you did, then just spend time exploring the city, do the quests there, explore, talk to everybody with a name. When you're done inside the walls, go outside, I think the captain mentions the easiest area is the undeads to the west. What I did was, when exploring a new area I would hover mouse over the first enemy I see to check the level (not sure if just hovering the mouse or if you have to alt or ctrl hover). If it's more than one level above, there's always another area nearby where enemies are more your level.

You should be working at solving the murder quest. Working on that quest line should get you are few more levels. There are a few other quests you can pick up and solve with out leaving town. Between all those you will get to about 4th level and have the opportunity to pick up some companions.

I think you need someone in your party to have at least 1 level in perception for that to work, but I don't know for sure since I got a point in perception as one of my first skills.

What I can say is that you should hit F5 as soon as you walk out of town!

Unless you chose the Lone Wolf trait when you made your characters, you can get two companions in the starting city. One is upstairs in the Mayor's house and the other is walking around the first floor of the King Crab Inn. Once you get the extra characters, the content will get easier. Just make sure you fight mobs that are within a level of your current level. Once you get used to the environmentals and other mechanics of the game, you can start pushing the envelope a bit.

For a first play through, I will say that F5 and F8 are your best friends. Use them frequently!

It has a bit of a strong learning curve. Check out this guide for the order in which you should tackle town. Once you get to level 4-5 things get a lot less frustrating.

Yeah, by trial and error I found that undead area to be the "easiest" but get walloped. I'll explore the town more. Didn't find either companion or get to lvl 3. I did complete the tutorial dungeon.

Have a full squad ie all four (one is in the Inn and other mage in the Library)then do as much as possible in town quest wise and you should be level 3 or 4 by the time you are thinking of going west gate out of town fighting undead, also worth having good gear weapons ready before you venture out.

The game actually gets little easier as you level up especially if you got some good mages and melee character.
Summon monsters can really help turn the tide in battle when you are outnumbered, every mage should be able to do that ASAP so if you got two mages that means two more summoned monsters on your side for those battles.

Keep an eye on your quest log as some of them you have to return to town to complete for your quest XP points.
Learning curve is high but gets easier the more time you give it,I actually restarted once with my level 3 squad,my current squad is level 16 now.

Remember mobs don't respawn.

Mem did you say you're on Normal difficulty? Challenging enough?

I recommend normal to start with unless it's too hard for you then try easy, or hard level if too easy.

I do believe one of the recent patches made easy mode even easier.

Yeah just went back and picked up my 2 extra squad members. Stole a bunch of stuff and seem to be okay now.

It looks like an advanced version of Diablo 3 with a hint of Dungeon Siege in its core.

Looks nice, but I fear I would become bored of it after awhile.

Man I don't think I have had to reload for characters biting it this much since wizardry. Great game so far at lvl 14.

Not at all like diablo. Would be nice if you could get a better tactical view of the map.

Hitting 'M' will give you a full screen map that you can zoom in and it of. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to snap the current view to a location on the map like most games allow you to do.

Love this game.

I totally and completely suck at it, but am having an absolute blast.

I'm only just a few hours into the game, but I'm already loving it. The setting and graphics are fantastic. The music is extremely well done. Conversations are interesting (if a little bit unpolished,) and the battles are fun as well as challenging.

It reminds me a lot of Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age Origins, though the turn-based combat system is a bit different. I'm still not convinced that it's better, but this seems to be the direction new games are going (Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numinera are both going this turn-based direction too.)

Well those were all kickstarter projects too. Turn based has its upsides. You can have much more complex tactics and interaction when you can sit and think it out. More like a puzzle game than a button masher. I sort of prefer the old BG style RT with pause to issue orders. Makes encounters you have little chance of losing go so much quicker. I've had a couple fights where I only had one guy who could realistically damage an enemy due to resistances, but I could out heal their damage. RT would have been nice there instead of cycling through all the characters so many times.

While I tend to agree that real-time is preferred, this turn-based is growing on me too. It really gives you a chance to test different attack vectors, and optimize your strategy.

I'm finding this game to be a pleasant challenge on "Hard" difficulty. I'm still a relatively low level (most of my party is level 5), and I get absolutely spanked multiple times in a row on probably 50% of the fights I've had. You really have to think about what you're doing, and plan your cooldowns.

I absolutely love the combos I can produce. My current favorite is to teleport the most dangerous enemy right next to my melee characters, knock it down with one of them, then set it on fire and beat the hell out of it while it's down.

I'm fighting some orcs that none of my status effects work on.. kind of annoying since that's how this game seems to work.

That lever turns on the shortcut so you don't have to finish the puzzle again to get to the final room. Unfortunately, pulling that lever keeps you from being able to find the Were sheep that hides in the portal puzzle room.

thanks.

Turn based has always been my favorite. Even in games like Baldur's Gate, where it is in real time, I constantly pause and give orders, so in effect it plays out like turn based.

Some of the best games ever were turn based, including the Final Fantasy series, Heroes of Might and Magic, and Wizardry. I honestly don't get the love for real time games, because I guarantee there are times when pathfinding is wonky and aggravating to players; everything from RTS games to Arcanum suffers from this.
