I'm lvl 7 or so now and combat is much easier than it was at the start. I'm just wandering the areas around town fighting packs and trying to run into quest targets. I have inventories full of junk I think I can use in crafting but haven't needed to...I would like to feel the need to craft stuff but I suppose I could do it for the sake of it!

Also I keep finding items for quests I haven't taken yet which is kinda annoying.

I really can't decide if I want to buy this game. I loved BG 1/2, Planescape Torment and those type of games. I've read a lot of positives about this game, but I've also read about the story being boring and tedious and the inventory and crafting being terrible. I wish there was a demo or something.

I can't talk much about the story, seeing as I'm less then the halfway point of the game, but so far I've found it interesting. It does require you to read what people are saying, and pay attention to what they do. (for example, I finished a quest just last night where the person ended our conversation with "I'll go see him right now!" and if you follow the person to where they are going there is another conversation that happens if you are there or not that give you closure on the quest.)

The inventory is not bad, it just could have been better. The inventory is set up to be filtered and auto-sorted, this makes the default 'unfiltered' view hard to deal with, but with smart use of filters and sorts it is just fine. The only problems I have with the inventory system is that bags are mostly useless (things in them can't be used, sold, or crafted with) and that you can't sort your inventory in the sell menu.

Crafting could have used some more work. It has a fairly limited number of recipes available, and the method of 'drop item X on item Y and if you can craft it will happen' just does not feel satisfying. I think they would have been better off creating a Horadric cube (from Diablo 2) like interface for crafting. For example you click on the anvil and an anvil shaped box opens up, you put the stuff in the box and hit a SMITH button, it gives you a hammering sound, and then if successful you get some audio feedback ("Eureka!" for a new recipe or "Another fine Creation!" for a known recipe) and the crafted item, if failed create a lump of metal and a 'Dammit! I screwed that up!'

Really these are small gripes not major issues, and ones that can probably be solved by the community.

I've got some time coming off work, maybe I'll work on making a mod for these.

I agree crafting could use a little work, but there are LOTS of things you can craft. I didn't look at this list until late in the game, since I figured out a lot on my own with trial and error, but I don't think they skimped on the number of things you can do.

As for story, I beat the game and enjoyed the story. It's nothing earth shattering, but I liked it well enough. I actually though Jahan's backstory was awesome and would like to play a game based solely on that.

New patch that was released yesterday(?) nerfed this I believe (nerfed leech anyway).

They also nerfed quick-loading. Pressing F8 to quickload your game now crashes to desktop. A pretty clever rebalancing if you ask me.

I believe they released a hotfix to fix a couple issues. Was that not one of the ones addressed?

I just got leech on my tank character last night so I don't know how it worked before, but currently it gives a small heal and then removes the blood surface. It is okay for a tank, but not game changing.

Can someone tell me, if you take the Zombie trait can you drink Poison potions to get heals?

Yes, it no longer crashes on quick-load.

I just started playing this game and I must say its a lot better than I originally expected.

I might keep playing for the rest of the day and see what kind of updates they bring or plan to incorporate.

I've been forcing myself not to buy it yet and I keep clicking to play Tropico 5. I'll probably pick it up when the new patch comes out.

I'm about at level 15 or so and I have the following observations:

* Fun combat (like xcom) interesting combos and some synergy with certain schools of magic
* Interesting storyline and quests (pet perk is awesome)
* Crafting can be fun but all I ever did with it is make arrows, boost armor, and create rings/amulets to max out stats. Some food is beneficial but I typically just heal through fights with spells

Some tips from my experience

*Combat is basically heavily stunlocking and charming (charming is super super super useful, a thief with the marksman charm and the thief charm plus 18 AP is unstoppable... seriously). There are weakening or crippling talents but I rarely use them

* Depending on party composition (I have two fighters, one thief/marksman, and one healer) it might be more beneficial to group-sneak in order to start the fight in melee range.

* Get as much AP and initiative as you can, AP makes or breaks battles.

* Glass cannon + thief or wizard = OP (My level 14 thief has 18AP per turn with zero buffs, wizard has 16)

*Pay attention to the fighting order at the top of the screen, later in the game enemies will have sometimes more initiative than you, and you will need to stun/charm the fast ones in order to get your battle plan going.

*Charming enemy marksmen or enemy rogues will case them to charm other enemies to your side, good times.

Overall I like this game, particularly later on when you have a lot of talents. This will be one of the few games I will try with different groups/playstyles.

I've just finished Risen 3 and replaying Sin for the second time, this time however seems easier in combat maybe due to patch?..

I'm only level 5 and have a nice balanced squad, two mages, tank, ranger,it could be I know what to expect being I've finished the game already,at least this time I've different classes.

Btw have they added the new characters in latest patch so you can pick up as part of your squad yet?

Not sure how they changed it, but it used to be that any hit on you or an enemy would create a pool of blood which leech would insta absorb, so my tanks were immune to physical attacks (archer hits tank for 150, armor absorbs 90 so damage is 60, leech heals for 70)

They changed it to it only goes off on the character who has it's turn, so you don't get healed when they hit you, only when you hit them.

No, not yet. I believe the next patch will add two more characters which will be the final amount. Apparently these characters will have more involved back stories than the first two. So which means more quests you would think, and an even longer game.

Thanks!....I guess I'll play through a lot slower this time, level 7 at the moment.

Hey all. Love this game. Been playing it off an on since release.

I am having a lot of trouble with the boss fight against King Boreas. What level were you when you fought him. I feel like i have missed something and am just a hair too low. My party is level 12.

Before working my way to Boreas, I found the conduit but he was too tought. So I leveled once or twice my way to Boreas. Now back to the conduit? Any tips for that time in the game?

Bought this game yesterday and just have been looking at character builds. I think I'm going to make a ranger and geo/pyro mage wizard.

Anyone have any recommendations for this builds?

This is the same setup my co-op game has, and it works rather well as long as you pick up some warrior henchmen. Your mage is probably going to want at least one point in each of the magic skills, with one point you can cast all of the basic spells, and some of them, like midnight oil, rain, and teleport, are invaluable.

Yeah, I was thinking about starting the wizard out with all 4 areas, but I couldn't see options for more magic skills. Would I get access to them after the character creation screen?

I don't remember the character creation screen too well, since I've only created characters 2 times, right after launch. But once in game you will be able to put points into any skill you want. The game is not really class based, although you need to focus your stats to specific skillsets to be really good with them since you get low stat penalties with higher level skills, but even the dumbest axe swinger will be able to cast a basic heal if you put points into that skill (I think heals are water?)
