Bought it. Liking it, so far. Really like the conversations between your two characters. I don't mind having to pick for both, actually makes it more interesting in your selections.

Don't understand why the characters are hooked up when running, but once in sneak mode they separate. Don't really want to try to sneak both of them separately. Wish one would auto sneak based on the path of the lead character.

UI could be a little better, and as someone mentioned earlier, the spells are cool.

Just got to to the drunks at the beginning of town last night. Will be playing more today.

I agree that playing both characters separately makes sense. Having your main characters disagree is how you role play each of them separately. They may not, and likely wouldn't, agree if it were a real conversation, and you can build their personalities, thereby affecting their traits, by playing each as you see fit. I hate games where you have one character speak for all, affecting the whole parties' traits, when each character could benefit from answering things differently. In that respect, this game is a step in the right direction.

This game seems to be many small steps in a refreshing direction. There is the dialogue that we discussed but thank goodness someone got exploration and searching right.

Pressing alt highlights stuff but not everything. Seems perception has an affect. But for instance I was in a room and had to move a barrel out of the way to find a hidden button to open a locked door.

The game overall offers less hand holding and shiny golden marked objectives . But it isn't overwhelming either.

Good stuff. There's something keeping this from being a 9 or 10/10 for me but I'm having fun and potential here is very high.

Agreed. My two main drawbacks are that I'd prefer to move with WASD instead of clicking, and the crafting/repairing system is sort of a pain as you progress because gear and spread all around but you have to open everyone's character sheets to have the right character interact with the right gear on another character. That said, I really like the way crafting/repairing is implemented in terms of everything besides organization.

This game is an indie game right?

Pretty good looking

Sort of but not really. They made the other Divinity games, at least one of which is one of the best action/RPGs ever (Divinity 2). But this game would not exist unless it was Kickstarted, because the people in charge before refused to make a turn-based game, and that's what the devs really wanted to do. So in that way, I guess you could call it Indie.

Local content is listed as around 10GB. Download is likely somewhat smaller before the unpack/install.

Best game I've played in a long stretch. If you have any interest in cRPGs at all, it's a must have. Now lets hope Pillars of Eternity holds up well on release this winter and I'll be in gaming heaven.

Man the fights are challenging. They aren't widespread but when you run into a fight chances are, it's not going to be a pushover.

Previous games would throw tons and tons of trash at you leading up to a challenging boss fight.

In this game for example battling the undead area seems to be a hardy pack of mages skeletons and some zombie animals. Couple of the skeletons are archers and archery in this game is pretty awesome. They shoot fire , ice etc .

Elements are the key to winning as opposed to a fun addition. You really have to use burning pools of oil, static clouds etc to win the fight. If you just click and attack dumbly you are screwwwwwed.

Some fights I have had acceptable deaths and I resuurect.

I'm only level 5-6. Maybe it changes later on.

Good stuff.

So I'm pretty new to crpgs. This game is pretty challenging and stuff and is a lot more involved than I thought. I really enjoy the amount of freedom I have in this game. Does anyone have any tips that I may have not caught onto? IE: putting out lights and candles makes it easier to sneak?

Also, does anyone want to share their team comp or share best practices?
Here's mine:
Knight (Man at arms/scoundrel)
Wizard (Aero/Hydro)
Rogue (Scoundrel and considering geomancery, but I have one in all nasty deeds, so I may go straight scoundrel.)
Ranger (off spec pyro)

This game is wonderful. I'm glad some devs are still making turn based games. I was afraid the trend in MMOs to make everything reaction-based was going to be the death of real RPGs, thankfully this games proves not.

How have I missed this game? It sounds incredible. Unfort there are no reviews up yet, but the community feedback seems tremendous from all around.

Question

On Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/230230/) there is a "Buy Divinity Original Sin Digital Collectors edition" which is described as :

Includes two copies of Divinity: Original Sin, the Source Hunter DLC pack, plus Beyond Divinity and Divine Divinity. Send the second copy to a friend! (DLC will only be made available on release.)

The wording is not clear to me. Does anyone know if this includes two copies of everything, or only two copies of the Divinity OS vanilla?

I would hope to hear that it includes two copies of OS+DLC

You can give the the second character an AI (loyal or random) and that seems to work sometimes. To be honest, I don't quite understand what it does as the second character will only sometimes answer automatically. Sometimes I still need to select their dialogue.

There's also the option to uncheck "enable dual dialogues" but I think that may disable their conversations entirely which I don't want.

The second character AI stopping working sometimes is a bug that the last patch note said should have been resolved. Hopefully now it will work right.

You pick two characters when you start? At least that is what people were doing in the lets play YouTube videos. I'm just not sure which would be optimal for me. Also, if the game does not guide you through stuff how do you know which enemies are too powerful to fight? Can you run away if they are too tough?

The Loremaster skill gives you information about NPC's when you hold CTRL and mouse over them, probably affected by Perception. It is a good idea to have someone in the party with a good perception and some points in Loremaster.
You can run away, but it seems to be skill or stat based. So far I've managed to run away from each fight I've tried as long as I was not next to an opponent.

Yea looks like they respond extremely quickly to requests and bugs. Can you play co op online with random people going through the campaign? If so how do you continue if you quit and come back or does it pair you with someone else? Are you able to go from multiplayer co op to single player if the other person leaves ?
It is drop in drop out co-op. I've not really played with that part of it yet though. So far I've played about 5 hours all in local multiplayer.

How are you guys handling skill progression?

For example I just realized you need to carry over points to get to next skill level. Did this once with my mage for pyro.

But it is tempting to fill out others skills first .

Also anyone know the strength requirement to dual wield?

Been playing a bunch more.....

The pathing AI leaves something to be desired. Out of combat your characters attempt to avoid poison, fire, etc. In combat you run right into everything with no warning, and its tough to tell sometimes what a surface is with all the crap on the ground.

Some sort of line of sight check for spells, bows, etc is needed. Can't tell you how many times I've put a shot into a fence or something I was sure I was clear of because the game doesn't really give you any warning.

I think Larian is also trolling you with the wizard pre-set. Fire mage and it seems like 90% of the resists/immune you run into in the early game are fire based. Its the worst possible school of magic early on. Luckily I picked up another mage, but many fights my wizard ends up buffing only since her spells would actually heal the fire based creatures.

Some of the fights are really unfair. IE there is like zero chance you'd win them without a few tries. Trying not to spoil, but when you track down the murderer..... first time you see those rams its a big fuck you. Couple others too.

The real nice thing is you can bypass or solve problems in ways the game doesn't really anticipate. The big robot monster I was having trouble fighting, so I fortified and hasted my fighter and had him run past with one of the pyramids and once to the other side of the cave the rest of the party used the other pyramid to join him. Most chests and doors can be bashed or burnt rather than picked, etc, etc. The world just seems to have its own internal logic and how all the surfaces, clouds, and spell/arrow effects interact is very cool. You really have to take environment into account in a way I've never seen in an RPG. For example one of my mages casts a rain spell and every time I fight fire creatures I lead with rain as it stops their burning effects a lot and weakens them. Pretty cool. Fire spells fix frozen, haste fixes slow, etc, etc.

This is how it should be. Don't pay attention where you are sending your guys in battle and they will suffer. Plus there are situations where it is worth it to run through those bad areas to use less AP. Would almost be silly if they automatically avoided those areas when moving, defeats some of the purpose.

Maybe you have a graphical problem as for me there is always some sort of visual line that will clearly stop at an object if it will hit that instead of your target.

As with AD&D and most table-top RPGs, positioning and environment manipulation are absolutely crucial to victory in each battle in this game. And it's the one thing most games completely ignore.

I don't have a problem with having to pay attention. I do have a problem with not having the UI to enable me to do so. Like when something burns I cast rain. There are glowing embers left and its hard to tell what is fire. Or the ground just gets covered in blood, etc. Its the sort of thing my character would be able to tell, but the game has a hard time displaying well. I agree that sometimes you do want to run through fire, etc. However that should be something like an alt-click function to turn off the pathing help. Its a what my character should be able to easily see translating in to UI thing.

The LOS issue isn't on all spells. Mostly arrows, but sometimes its really tough to see what is what is going on with all of them. Having the enemy highlight isn't a sure thing. Again my character would easily be able to check LOS, translating it into UI shouldn't be a challenge. Either way manually checking LOS with a dotted line is pretty bad. We get percent hit chances floating above heads, yet we have to manually check shots.

I find that zooming way in helps with both issues, but you're right it's not perfect.

I do not know if that helps or not.

My shadowblade found a couple +1 sneak items and now he is up to 3. I found sneak near useless until I got above 2.

now I can sneak sometimes in fights to backstab but more importantly I can sneak around town and steal stuff. I just keep hitting the button until it works. sometimes it will wear off just as I take something but usually not. I suspect if I get it to 4 it will be easy.

For new equipment, I'd like to see a "compare to all" mouseover option instead of just seeking a comparison to the character holding the equipment.
