I unlocked the tenebrium skill line for all the characters.

Do I need to start investing points into tenebrium for all my characters to be able to equip decent weapons? I know I need it for destroying the monsters where I am now, but don't know how important it is after that.

I'm 62 hours in and still have a ways to go at level ~15, the game is worth the money, especially if the mod community begins to come up with some new content.

You don't really need tenebrium greater than 1; at the end of the game, I was exclusively using regular legendary weapons (find very few tenebrium legendaries, and regular weapons were far more powerful - like 3 dex 3 speed resists health and immunity to something).

Finally finished the game - 102 hours. Hit level 22 during the last fight, which was pretty easy imo. The ending was a bit abrupt; seemed like they wanted to do more, but ran out of time. Why would the last boss drop legendaries if you can't pick them up (game ends)?

Overall loved it though. Immediately started another game with two Lone Wolfs on hard to see how they play. Can't remember the last time I started a game over right away.

Can some of the people provide some honest X out of 10s? I'm interested in this game but the gameplay video I've seen so far isn't compelling me, but I admit I'm jaded and it takes alot to get me going. I read one critical review where the reviewer spoke about all sorts of deficiencies and then scored it a 9 out of 10. I'm assuming there is more to it than meets the eye so I'm open to opinions.

I'm not sure why its getting 9/10 from places other than they are excited to see a turn based rpg again. Its a neat game if you're into the genre, but isn't polished enough for me to say its a must buy if you don't like RPGs in general. There are plenty issues still in it- UI, bugs, etc that would prevent me giving it that high of a score. Low 80's is where I expected the metacritic ratings to end up. Good if you're into RPGs. Meh if they're not your thing. The biggest draw is how all the clouds, surfaces, status effects, and weapon/spells interact. That's really neat. The world is pretty internally consistent in that if you think you should be able to do something, you probably can get away with it. That's really cool too. Just feels like it needed a better writer and another 6 months of polishing time right now.

Guys was wondering if you could help me out.

I am going to buy the steam package that includes 2 game licences and 1 DLC unlock. If I play co-op with my friend will he need to buy the DLC aswell or will it be ok as long as I host the game.

Thanks in advance.

From what I have seen it's a lot of fun it just does not hold your hand so after you create the characters and go through the intro section you are on your own to figure the rest out. The spells are really cool though and so is the world you travel through.

No. The DLC is mostly a joke (as in it actually is a joke). You get three (two if you are not a Kickstarter) items, and as far as I can tell their can only be one instance of each in a game, so both of you can't have the items.

You get a
pair of underwear your character can wear that make crude comments triggered on certain events. Nothing important. For example when you steal something it sometimes says 'Oh, if only the girls at Source Hunter School could see how edgy you are!'

You also get
a golden grail that I've not figured out if it does anything.

For me, it is easily a 10/10. 102 hours in, and starting a new game on hard with two lone wolf characters.

I am however a huge turn based and fantasy RPG fan. If you don't like the genre to begin with, then of course you would rate it differently. One thing I do know though, is that there hasn't been a game of this type and quality in a long time.

Most of the complaints I see are minor gripes imo. People not liking the story or characters; I could care less, I play for the character building and tactics. People complaining about no quest markers and battles too hard; I like not being told where everything is (kills exploration feel), and hard is good.

There are things that could be improved, and there has already been like 20 patches, if only 5MB patches to fix something minor, so the devs care and fix things.

IMO it's the best traditional style (not FPS/RPG style) RPG since Dragon Age: Origins. Combat is better than Origins but the companions less interesting (and a lot less of them)

Hm, I'll have to try it when I get home. I didn't think of trying to craft with it. I wonder if I need a point in crafting to use it? Thanks!

You might have sold it for me. I loved Baldur's Gate and I loved Dragon Age Origins.

To me it's more Baldur's Gate than Dragon Age Origins. I actually feel it's the real successor to Baldur's Gate as I never felt DA:O was in the same style of Baldur's Gate (maybe because I played BG almost as if it was turn based, with pause before combat, pause on injuries and what not).

From all the reviews about the game I've read, only one was not 89+, and it was a review from someone who started flatly "I don't like turn based games but...". It's like if you asked me to do a review for a FPS, I would rate them all like 60, just because to me they're all the same thing with different textures. So, if you don't like turn based combat, then you probably won't love the game (but if you've never tried it and you just 'think' that you don't like it, do give the game a chance, it might surprise you actually like turn based combat after all).

Didn't read the whole thread yet, but this is reminding me of the original Wizardry games I used to play back in the 80's. In combat, choose your character's actions , acts them out, monster reacts, and then you choose again for the next combat round until all the monsters or you are dead. I've been dying to find something similar the last few months, a modernized version of it. So far, it sounds like I'll have to try this out this weekend.

I wish they would make a game which combined the best gameplay elements of DA:O and Mass Effect 1 but in the vein of Buck Rogers Countdown To Doomsday/Matrix Cubed. Many games take themselves too seriously these days.

So has anybody has luck with a dex based character such as ranger or rogue?

I'm playing a shadow blade turned ranger. Becomming really good. I have 2 charms , the marksman line pretty good. Hes my sneaking guy for theft. Backstabbing sucks. I can sneak and still get dmg boost with bow but seems there's usually something better to do with my ap.

Individual builds not as important as just having all spell lines covered between your chars.

But yeah, he's a fine character. If I built him again I think he would be even better given what I've learned.

My wayfarer is very effective. 5 Expert Marksman, 2 Hydrosophist, 2 Geomancer. Level 15. Started with her and a battlemage, and still using Jahan and Madora with them. This game is awesome!

The penalty your abilities suffer for only having 2 points in a skill line + having low int due to focusing on dex made me give up on that. The abilities cost 8-10 action points and do less damage.

I am having my characters put 5 points into their main skill line and then max out one more skill line. Three seemed undoable at 15.

I love my ranger (Bow+Earth). I like the versatility, she casts a pet first round, then controls everything from her spot... Some enemy low health? Twang! dead. Some caster over there? Twang! silenced/frozen/stunned (I just got a charm spell from Marksman I haven't tried yet). With arrows of all types she also makes use of terrain effects, barrels, etc. What she lacks in raw damage she more than makes up in versatility.

Not if you only use low level skills, like Flare, for example.

Rogues start out slow, but by end game they can be one of the most powerful classes, especially if they are buffed (oath of desecration, hasted, etc).

My Rogue at end game could move behind an enemy that was off screen for 3-4 AP (30 yards), hit for around 200x2 per attack with 8+ attacks per round, and had such high dex (25) that most melee missed every attack they tried. This is without Lone Wolf and all buffs - seen some rogues hit for 2000+.

Melee is king end game. No caster can even come close. Many of the last area fights, my casters did nothing but buff, teleport, and heal.

Yeah I have to take back what I said earlier about melee being underpowered. It is for the first 10 or so levels, but then it really starts to ramp up. By level 20 they are devastating. They just soak up the damage like a sponge and hit like a mule.

I also find some of the higher end spells to be a bit cumbersome at times. They are usually area effect and can do friendly fire, which often makes them too bothersome in close up combat.

Anyway, I finished yesterday. THe final fight was a bit too easy for my liking but overall a most excellent game.

Big patch today. Another nice step in the right direction with dialogue and personalities. Ultimate I think " arguments with your whole party sort of like baldurs gate would be ideal. Engage in the rock paper scissors to win the argument and build the appropriate personality bonus on your protagonist.

Controlling 2 protagonist in sp mode is wonkey. I think simply put a second char is only a second protagonist in co-op.

Anyway....looks like a good patch.

Having to control both character's dialogue choices was one of my main complaints when I first started playing. The patch made it better but I still don't know how much of a difference the different personality types made. I picked free for my second player but after having to redo an section over I noticed that his dialogue choices changed. I checked by reloading again and once again his choices were random. I expected them to be fixed choices but to do that the devs would have to go through each line of dialogue and assign it to specific personality. That would take a ton of time and I imagine if they ever get to it it's low on the totem pole. Until then, it seems the 2nd player's dialogue choices are random.

choose 'loyal' and they will always agree with you.
