DivX quality slider?

Ya know there's the quality slider (guess that's what it is) when you playback movies by right clicking > properties > mpeg 4 encoder > advanced. Back on my 550, if I had it past the 2 or 3rd spot towards DVD Video then many scenes of divx movies would become choppy so I left it around 1 or 2 since the 550 just couldn't handle it. Now with my Tbird I have it all the way to 5 but I notice no difference from 0 or from 5 in the quality.

Actually I just checked and that slider isn't there anymore in the divx 4 codec (was using 3.11 alpha) but theres a new processing one.

I dunno...just leave it at full I guess. Maybe it has something to do with filters.

i guess if a movie is encoded at a higher bitrate if you set the slider lower it will have an easier time decoding it loosing quality along the way, i really don't know.

That's the site I was looking for. I had been there before and it has so much stuff there. I found where it mentioned quality and the slider but never said how much it effects quality, just says to turn it down if it's choppy. Oh well I can't notice a difference between the worst and best setting but I might as well leave it at the best since they don't play choppy.
