Divx Set-Top Box

Hey all. I am new to this forum and wuld like to say HI. But the reason I joined was to ask for your help in making a DivX Set-Top box. I know a few differnt ways but I would liek to avoid Windows. If I accomplish this with you help I will publicly release all schematics and software for download from my website and various other sites. This also would be a Open-Source project. I know not where to start. Thanks.

MPEG4 != divx

I think linux/ramdisk/hd mounted read only/celeron 300a@450/passive cooling would be a good option. You could pick up a good ol bh6 and couple it with a pci riser card.

mingon, from that link I would pretty much assume it will not support any divx formats...

go to www.doom9.net and read about upcoming developments in standalone players for divx...I haven't read it all but it seems that divx 5.0 codec maybe the format that will be the most compatabile to run....

I am waiting until it all gets hammered out...right now I can play my divx fine from computer to my bigscreen in the next room through the vid card svideo out and my audigy digital out to my DD5.1 tuner....

just pretty much the cheapest system you can find with a DVD player and a tv card capable of doing s-video out like a hauppage wintv stereo, where you get time shifting and recording functions so you can use it like a TiVo =) oh, and a sizeable hd too.

I would recommend:

An old BX/LX motherboard, with integrated video/sound/Lan (try an sis motherboard)
500+ mhz celeron processor
256 mb pc 133 sdram
Pioneer 16x DVD player
AverMedia TV Studio w/ remote (or equivalent)
Maxtor 60 gb hd.
