Want a sturdy, cheap headphone stand for your desk, but don't like banana hangers? Here's a $5 solution:

Water bottle holder from a bicycle

Some tips:
1. Using 2 drywall screws work great. If your desk is thick enough, 1 screw might work, but mine kept coming loose, so I used both holes and now it's steady as a rock
2. You can mount this vertically, like on a wall. If your headphone band is thick, just use some pliers to bend the top curve out so that your headphones will slide down easily. pic

In the vertical pic, how did you attach your shredder to the wall?

That's called "tricks of the trade"

do you have a basket to catch the shreds?

It's complicated.

I want pics of how you attached that to your desk

That is one really interesting room you have there, Mr Edison.

1. Take one pine 1"x2"x6" board
2. Take one 1-1/4" sheet rock screw
3. Combine
4. Brilliant
5. Profit

HD-570s. They are open headphones, not sealed. They are SUPER comfy. I sometimes forget I'm wearing them, even after the music stops. They don't need an amp and the sound is wonderful, especially for compressed audio files like MP3 music and XVID movies. It plays everything very well, but doesn't reveal the flaws of the audio files like with higher-end equipment. I sold off my HD-650s and kept these if that tells you anything

So you are using half of the damn thing to use as a hook? Seems like there are better alternatives. Coat hook?

Coat hooks are meant for vertical use, at least the ones I've seen. Plus the bike water bottle cage was like two bucks. Plus it's sitting in unused space.

Is this some sort of joke? You're only using 1.5 to 2 inches of that entire bottle holder. And then you mount it to the top of the desk? What a waste and an eyesore.

A better solution would have been to mount it to the underside of the desk. You could've also drill it into a wood block and then wood glued the block the under side of the desk.

Well, I'm not using it to hold a water bottle, so no, it's not a joke nor a waste. Also it's curved on the end, so if I mounted it upside-down on the underside of the desk it would slide off. Poor college student hacks ftw

what if you maounted it to the side of your desk instead of the top, you could hold a water bottle :Q then...... you could hang your headphones too!

Two problems with that:

1. My desk has no side, it's one of those with the fold-out metal legs and flat top, hence the flat horizontal mounting.

2. The headphones wouldn't fit on the stand if a water bottle was in it

Flip it upside down and put it underneath the desk.

It'd slip off, mine is curved at the end.

Yeah they're nice if you have the space on your desk. I had that corner free and needed something I wouldn't accidentally elbow off the table
