Are the DLink wireless products better than the SMC? I am currently using SMC and want to try DLink as a possible replacement.

I have the D-Link 614+. Works great, I use it to link all my computers in my house both wired and wireless with each other and share a high-speed cable internet connection. PCWorld mag also rates it very highly. I paid $39 after rebate about 3 months ago. The prices are really starting to come down on these 802.11b units since the 802.11g's are becoming more mainstream.

I got one at my parents house and im thinking about buying one for my appartment and share my friend/neighbor.

Its kinda odd though, when playing counter strike I get better latency off a wireless conection then a wired one. The only real downside is transfering files from a wired computer to a wireless is slowwwwwwwwww...but that maybe a wireless problem.

Sweet. Just ordered mine for instore pickup. Total after coupon was $57.48 - $30 rebates = 27.48. Good stuff. If you need the PC card, you can add the D-Link DWL-650+ for $50 - $10 rebate. A friend needed a complete setup so I suggested ordering the router and the card separate so she could use the $15 twice. Doing that, and AR, the router and the card was right at $50.

great deal! I was about to jump on the Siemens router deal, but this one is probably a better router, and it's ~$10 cheaper after the 2 rebates.

it was tempting to place a second order and get the D-Link wireless NIC from Office Depot for ~$20 after rebates and the $15 off $50 coupon, but I am going to hold out for a deal on a USB wireless NIC, cause that will be far more useful for my needs.

I ordered mine Sunday (before this was posted, I'm ahead of the times).

It arrived today... so the 3-day delivery thing looks to be legit.

I have to wait for my 520+ PCI cards to arrive before I can test out the 802.11b on it. I'll be setting up the hardwired LAN tonight, transitioning from the ever popular Linksys 4-port Router. Should be fun!

Picked it up tonight. Setup was a breeze. I, too, replaced my Lynksys 4 port router with this one. My three wired connections (2 PCs and a ReplayTV) are working fine, and my internal 802.11b receiver picked up the internet connection with no problem.

The only issue is that my previous file and printer sharing doesn't work now. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I bought one of these 3 weeks ago and have been running it since with zero problems. If you use one of the D-Link + series adapters you get up much better speed.

By the way, my old LinkSys 4 port wired router sold for $35 on EBay, and the LinkSys WAP for $66. Upgrade and make money, gotta love it.

....the only problem I had is that the OD website would not apply the Router's price toward the online coupon (don't know why...no reason it shouldn't qualify ) But I went to the store and got the manager to fix that....good ol' OD customer satisfaction

I have a replaytv too. Can I use the D-link DWL-800AP+ Airplus Wireles Range Extender on the replaytv, because it has the option to select either AP Mode or Repeater? If this won't work, what device should I get for my ReplayTV..hopefully D-Link so I can get at least 22mbps.

For those that didn't notice the sticker that says "Now even faster 4x!" on the box, if you use this in conjunction with the others dlink enhanced wireless card, etc. there is now a FREE firmware/driver update for even faster than the 22mbps available at dlink. This makes the deal VERRYY HOT in my opinion.

Any TI ACX100-based card/router supports 22mbps and 4x modes. D-Link, SMC, US Robotics, and Trendware are the more notable brands with "enhanced" (i.e. TI ACX100) 802.11b products. Most of them are outsourced to the same Taiwanese OEM (Global Sun Technology).

Fastest you'll get with both 22mbps and 4x mode enabled is around 12mbps. Not bad, considering normal 11mbps 802.11b can only push 4-5mbps.
