Ever since 1992, American toilets by law could use only 1.6 gallons per flush. Being used to flushing power in the range of 3.5 to 5 gallons, Americans with brand-spanking-new toilets suddenly found themselves with toilets that couldn't handle their dookies.
Jesus! My toilet uses something crazy like 18.9L (5 US gallons) and even then I've managed to clog it once. How the hell do you guys manage? Do you just flush the toilet half way through dumping, then again after dumping, then again after wiping?

I typically flush my toilet 2 or 3 times per dook, even then it clogs pretty frequently. Contractors used to save high flow toilets when they pulled them out of old houses.

We pu low water use toilets at our house and they work fine. Don't clog any more often than the old ones.

One of them will actually let you hold the handle down longer for more flushing power, while a standard quick flush takes very little water.

We have 2 dual flush toilets in the house and they hardly ever plug up.
For those who have problems, it must be your diet or something.

I really don't get what all the fuss is over low flow toilets. I swear, we hardly ever clog ours up but then there are no 200+ lb beasts releasing their bowels into them either.

When the low flow toilets first came out they were terrible. Then they came out with pressurized models that were better but they have parts that need to be replaced periodically and the water pressure needs to be within a certain range. The new top of the line gravity low flow models do just as well as the pressurized ones.

My toilet can flush 17 golf balls!

Ahhh, ok. I think I've seen one of those before. Instead of being buoyant, the rubber flap thing would sink. Holding it open prevented it from sinking. It's a pretty good idea actually.

I hate toilets that don't flush well, it's their only job for god sakes.
My dad put in some really nice Kohler units in their place. You can't stop them. The way a toilet should be.

...and the longer/more flush is actually the one that used 1.5 gallon, shouter one uses .8 or 1 gallon iirc. So the maximum per flush is under 1.6 gallon, win!!

I haven't had any problems with the low flow toilets these days. I haven't had to plunge a toilet in at least 5 years.

Have had 4 brand new homes in the last 15 years. The new toilets have been fine. Some of the early low flow were bad. You can change them out for less then $200.
