First of all, I find it really really quite funny that you can judge my experience even though I haven't told you anything about it. For your information, I personally have never been an endurance athlete myself. At both the high school & college level, I was a long jumper & triple jumper as well as a sprinter. Though my goal was never to "get big," my goal, like powerlifting, was ALWAYS to increase strength, and more importantly POWER. Addtitionally, I have over 10 years of experience teaching & coaching others in power events.
Secondly, I DO know about "getting big;" however, I would NEVER offer advice about doing so. "Size" is primarily a byproduct of genetic makeup. "Strength" is a byproduct of intensity. YES, they are related, but you cannot get big just by lifting--some people will NEVER get big regardless of what they do--BUT they WILL get stronger. To build one pound of muscle requires a great deal of work, but also a LOT of EXTRA calories. When I mentioned 4 hours of lifting, I'm not talking about the "Average Joe" & I would never recommend that for ANYONE.
I have had this argument more times than I care to remember. The result is always the same--people will do what they want to do. It is just really unfortunate that our self-image has to be derived from "TV" & "Movies" & people cannot work to better themselves in a realistic, HEALTHY manner.
Best of luck to everyone in your pursuits, regardless of what they may be.
