Do cable companies allow this?........

Ok, I've had cable modem service through Cox for quite a while. Me and my sis pay the bill. I payed the last few months for her cause she said she didn't have the money. Well she doesn't want to pay anymore and my dad won't let me pay the bill myself so he's cutting the service. There's no way in hell I'm going back to dial-up and I'm seriously going to consider selling my computer if I can't use the cable modem anymore.

Now that I've bored you to death, my question is can my mom subscribe to the modem service even though the TV service is under my Dad's name? Thx.

Yes, but you will confuse the crap out of the cable company, and probably risk shutting down the whole CSR department.

How will this confuse them? I'm sure they could handle something simple as billing to a different person but you never know....

Don't ever Overestimate the cable companines intelligence. I worked tech support for @Home for a year and I promise you, it'll screw something up seriously. However, it is possible to do it and if the options are 'do it or don't have the service' I say give it a shot, really what do you have to lose?

I've seen it done before What you'd want to do is say you have a roommate that wants @Home, but needs it on a seperate bill. Or you can say you're renting the loft/spare bedroom/whatever, and tack on a letter to your address ("300A Main Street&quot or something similar. The CSR should be able to help you out with this. Just explain you need seperate billing.

The downside is you'll be paying more as a non-prefered customer (no TV service) this way.

The reason he doesn't want you paying the bill is because you may then want to see it, and he doesn't want you to see his constant abuse of the Spice channel

Do your parents live in the same house? (sorry but I'm not certain from reading your post) If so, and she is planning on starting it up again at the same place then why not just have her talk to your dad to begin with?

I'll be paying the same because we have basic basic cable; I never watch TV so I don't care .
Rendus, what cox location do you work for?

He's being stubborn about it. I'm gonna talk to my mom about it and she'll probably do it since she's on my side in this situation.

He'll just ask her if it's true, she'll say no and he'll get pissed.

<< if your sister's cool have her in on it, free broadband for her. >>

Ummmm.... maybe you didn't read the first post, but this whole crap started because she won't pay her part of the bill. So I took away the Cat5 wire so she can't use the internet and she got pissed and started yelling at me.

how about if you eliminate the cable-tv service and keep the online service. You would still be getting basic basic cable tv service, even though it would be wrong of you to use such service. <g>

Ok, I don't know about Cox@Home, but I assume it is the same as with ATT@Home. With ATT@Home, cable modem service and cable TV service are kept separate and billed separately. They used to have separate cable guys also, but might have combined resources now. My ATT@Home is billed on my credit card since this is the standard (and maybe only way it is done). My dad pays for the ATT cable TV by writing a check for the monthly bill they send out.

When I had TW RoadRunner back in college it was different though. All cable services were billed on one bill with RR and you also got a discount 5 dollar discount if you got both. No discount with ATT as far as I know other than maybe if you got Digital Cable and Broadband.

I have both through Cox, and they come on one bill. There could be some kind of discount, but as with everything, they make the bill so confusing to decipher, I just pay whatever it says at the bottom.

What about your parents? Are they on dial-up still? If you are going to stay with Broadband no matter what, you might as well share since your sister and parents are not going to pay anyways and they are likely not affecting your bandwidth much, your family will have higher utility if you share than if you hog it all to yourself. If you want some money from your sister, maybe you can strike a deal like she pay you 100 dollars for the whole year (very fair since you are using it a lot more than she is and 100 dollars is better than 0 dollars).

I kinda think that'd cause some serious rifts in your family for your mom to order service under her name when your father flat-out says no to it. But maybe your family is already that dysfunctional?

As for the sister, she doesn't want to pay, she doesn't get Internet service. No reason to share if you're the one stuck paying for it.

Give her the internet connection for free, but hide a webcam in her room and earn back the money she should have payed for her share
