there is little risk that it will electrocuting themselves and burning when eating a cable. If the cat bites the cable causing the positive and ground to connect it will short and electricty will go down the ground wire creating a lot of heat and starting your house on fire the will be fine. On the other hand if the cat just bites the hot wire creating a circuit to ground the resistance of the dead cat should be enough to prevent a fire.
The cat I had 10 years ago+ used to like chewing the smaller wires from transformers...like the answering machine.
One night he was chewing on the cord and before I could spray him all I saw was a bright flash of light and he took off crashing into things.
I had a picture (pre-digital), I was trying to find it but I don't know where it is.
He was tearing, frothing at the mouth, and shaky. Took him to the vet but he was ok.
he didn't bite wires again. For a while he'd avoid even getting near any.
Your kitty got 12vDC'd!
