For some reason I like commercials for German cars (except for Mercedes, but that's just cuz I hate 'em). I love the new Audi one with the dog.

Chevy cars suck (except the Camaro). The new Malibu, Impala, and the Cavalier pretty much blow. Their trucks on the other hand are, as much as I hate to say it...."like a rock". The Blazer and their line of pickups arer damn nice, can't argue with that.

Chevy commercials?

I hate almost all commercials. And now that the sock puppet from pets.com is gone, there are even fewer that don't make me want to throw something at my TV. And since they'll stop playing that Election Snickers commercial, I can't think of another one I really like.

Blech.

This exactly the truth. I would run any 4 or 6 banger rice rocket that wanted to give it a try. Scheduled blue bottle tune-up Saturday morning will put my ss at roughly 600hp (325hp stock,+150hp 12psi Vortech blower already). Bring on yer rice cakes.... Mmmmmmmm, this Chevy likes a low fat diet......

I just remembered another that I like. The Busch commercial with the little weasel or badger or skunk, whatever it is, cracks me up every time.

cablegod - consider me jealous

I want to upgrade my future car to the Super 60 standard (a mopar standard pretty much), I'll be pushing close to 300HP at the wheels. This is pretty much a dream for me, I'm not sure how reliable this is, but think of that much power in a ~2800lb car!

Again - a faint dream that maybe I can carry out in the future

<<I'd rather have a Toyota Tundra TRD extended cab w/4.7 liter 245HP DOHC V8 (most advanced truck engine, basic engine used in the LS400) over ANY other pickup including the lame Silverados and even the RAM V-10.>>

Yeah, it's a nice truck until you need to tow something bigger than a utility trailer or your jet ski. Then you need a good old American truck.

<< They're used like cars nowadays just like sport-utes. >>

I disagree. Most of the trucks that I see coming in are used at least for towing a boat on weekends, if not totally thrashed all week.
If you have a boat or a race car, etc, you need a truck. You generally only use those vehicles on weekends and holidays, and most people can't just buy a truck and let it sit, so they drive them every day. What's wrong with that?

Ummm, 245HP and plenty of torque is enough to tow quite a bit. I don't tow anyway. I'd be hauling stuff (if even that).

Tundra
245 HP
315 lb/ft torque
Max Tow, 7100lbs

For comparison

Dodge Ram 1500 V8
245 HP
335 lb/ft torque

Chevy Silverado 1500 V8
4.8 liter
270 HP
285 lb/ft torque

5.3 liter
285 HP
325 lb/ft torque

The 4.7 Toyota V8 makes more torque with less displancement than the 4.8 Chevy and almost as much as the much larger 5.9 V8 in the Dodge. Smoke on that THAT. ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND, you get Toyota reliability and quality. Not that crap American SH!T

NFS - that Tundra has 2nd the least torque out of all of the engines listed - what are you trying to prove? Who cares what displacement it is, if it's making more power - then so be it. Trucks are America's best asset - they know what they're doing with them, and they do it well. Import trucks are more flimsy (to a way lesser extent, the Tundra). Chevy makes great trucks, Ford makes great trucks, and Dodge makes great trucks. Where's the "American crap SH!T" you're talking about? You rant and rave about your parent's Explorer from time to time, what seperates that from being "American crap SH!T"?

What Ranger? We have an Explorer and the interior quality and fit is SH!T. Other than that, it's pretty solid.

The point is, the Tundra is no slouch. No to mention the better quality, reliability and resale value.

ahem - sorry, I was on a pickup-kick for a moment, I meant to say Explorer....sorry

And I also forgot GMC - I've seen so many of their pickups around, and they're all very solid. They actually drive like a car - I've been behind the wheel of an extended cab pickup before, and it drives smooth. Just because America has a bad rap for their cars doesn't mean it carries over to their trucks/minivans/SUVs etc. Except with Ford, their Minivans suck ass :disgust:

Well lets see. I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 SR5. I have already had to take it back for a couple of minor warranty things. This truck has a 190 HP V6 which gets me 19 MPG on the HWY. My dad on the other hand has a 2000 Chevy Z71 with 285 HP and gets 20 MPG on the HWY. Mine rides like a wagon while his rides 10X smoother. His prior 1992 Chevy Z71 went 200,000+ miles with no problem before he sold to get a new one. If I had it to do over again, there is no way I would buy a Japenese truck again. It would be full size Chevy for me, but more than likely I would get an Accord.

My dad had an '88 Mitsu Mighty Max pickup. He put close to 150k miles on it and never had ONE single problem out of it. It was a 5-speed and just wouldn't die.

He got a '87 Silverado to replace it b/c he wanted something bigger. Damn thing had all kinds of problems. Dual fuel tank switch wouldn't work which left us stranded a few times. Igniton problems, and it also had to be recalled for the exploding fuel tanks.

He sold it shortly after that.

Toyota has tried to compete with the American trucks for quite some time now, and the Tundra is pretty close to 1/2 ton American trucks. I can't argue too much there.

But 1/2 ton trucks are for generally for people who live in town and really don't need a truck to begin with. Anyone who really needs a truck gets at least a 3/4 ton which typically comes with heavier axles, frames, alternators, etc. And the 3/4 ton engine lineup is very different than the engines they offer for the little 1/2 ton trucks. Should we compare the v-10's and diesels to your Toyota engine?

You can't compare these toy imports to a real truck. How many people even know what a full floating axle is? Most people just don't get it so I'm probably wasting my breath.

I hate just about all truck commercials. I hate all Dodge commercials too. Dodge: Different, whatever. The best car commercials (IMHO) are Volkswagen's. Plus, they have great automobiles to back them up.

If you tow 7100lbs for real with one of those little trucks, you'd be out of your mind. It is simply too small. Truly the tail wagging the dog.
Both the Ford and Chevy full size(probably the Dodge, too) are rated to tow more. I wouldn't tow that much even with one of those. Manufacturer ratings on tow capacity are mainly sales tools. They have no bearing on reality.
I fully agree that for the most part, American cars lag behind Jap. cars in quality. In certain areas, however, like full size trucks, U.S. cars are unmatched.
I work at the one of the 3 largest Ford dealers in the nation, and I can attest that Ford quality is most certainly NOT job #1. Anyone in our service dept will tell you the same thing.
I believe that Ford lags far behind GM in quality. The sheer amount of recalls on all Fords proves this.
That being said, I've heard from friends at Toyota dealerships that the Toyota "almost full size" trucks are not quite up to Toyota's reputation of quality.

Bottom line is, the Toyota truck, regardless of advertised horsepower and towing capacity, simply is not a legitimate match for Ford, Dodge, and certainly not Chevy trucks. They can all simply work rings around it.

One more word on towing: NSF4 stated that the Toyota truck is rated to tow 7100lbs. Insane. You need at least a 1 ton truck (F-350, C-3500) to tow that much on a regular basis.
