Im a senior in high school right now, so I have no input for the poll. I was wondering how many of you worked while in college.

Did it fit in with your schedule? Did you sacrifice a social life? Not worth the low pay?

If you can get a good-paying job, go for it. Everybody's poor in college anyway, unless you've got your parents constantly backing you financially. You could work part time (Saturday/Sunday afternoons).

There really will always be another party, even though everyone tells you that you just missed the greatest party to ever happen and nothing will ever be that sweet again.

I worked part time most of my years of college. The only time I did not was during the summer I got married.

it's easy to get work study and with work study you should apply to desk jobs that require little real work. you can study while working and make some extra spending money.

I was part of GA Tech's Co-Op Program, so I did, but I never had to study and work during the same semester, save one.

One semester: Part-time intern for Deutsche Lufthansa AG
Four semesters: Full-time co-op for Delta Air Lines e-business
One smester: Full-time co-op for Computer Automated Motion, Inc.

Not working during the school year, worked the summer after my freshman year (at Eckerds, hehe), and the summer after my junior year. After my junior year, I got an awesome internship that paid mad cash - basically enough $ for a full year of school in 12 weeks (they gave me a scholarsip included in that total).

I'm pretty sure the main reasons I got that was my high GPA and extracurriculurs, so I would say it definitely was worth NOT working and instead getting the GPA and activities to boost the resume. But I might be biased because I had an academic scholarship that covered all tuition & fees, and my parents picked up the room and board tab willingly..

unfortuantely, yes. most people I knew had more financial aide than they needed so they got an extra $1000 a semester. never had to pay for books or food. Meanwhile, if I didn't work, I'd have to hope the book was online and stock up on ramen for a bit

I worked for university housing last year. They paid me over $8 to make nachos for people, and take pizza orders. It was a really easy job, and not gross like I've always thought of food service to be. And you got to pick your hours. (There were a few requirements-- you either had to work a bunch of lunch shifts or work one day every other weekend, and everybody had to take one late night shift.) If they have something like this at your school, I highly recommend it.

Yep. Took 21 credit hours at a time and worked two flexible-time jobs where I could put in hours whenever I wanted, so there was no problem working that into my schedule.

Yes. Summers consisted of highway construction work. Paid well, lots of overtime, usually made 10k or so each summer. During school I had an on-and-off furniture moving job when the guy needed me and on weekends I worked for cash land surveying. Generally I was able to cover all expenses but straight-up tuition, for which I took out a student loan.

First two years yes. After that I barely had time to keep up on programming projects and other homework.
