What if there was a car in front of them that has now left? Who's the dick now?

I'm not talkin bout that I'm talking about pulling into the station with no cars in their lane and they stop at the first pump. I worked at gas station as a Petroleum dispensing technician first and then manager for 3 years outta high school back during the second gas "crisis" and I am well versed in gas station pump etiquette, and I've sure yelled at enough customers PULL UP! lol

Yea who wants to be called a gas station attendant or pump jokey when you can be called a Petroleum dispensing technician. Oh god we had so much fun during the gas crisis, we were gods. Worked 4 hours and got paid for 8 because we sold just as much gas. We never had a shortage it was just the panic.

I leave gaps in front of me so I can escape from the line if needed. Why get right up on the rear bumper of the cr in front me of and trap myself in?

It's actually better for traffic, if people intelligently leave gaps, then intelligently start to move forward when the light turns green. Plus I hate people tailgating me when I'm on a hill w/a stick shift.

I usually let the brakes out and roll back a few inches when I notice a car approaching me from behind. This is enough to stop most people from crawling up my ass; they notice my backwards movement as they approach. Gives me plenty of comfort room to easily engage the clutch and move on at green light.

after being rear ended and almost hitting the car in front of me (would have if the car that hit me didnt go under me) i leave more space nowadays
Happened to me April 2015. Car behind me was to close to mine and got rear ended by driver not paying attention. His car got crashed but it ended up breaking my rear bumper and trunk.
Cost +$5000 to repair the damage, which his insurance (State Farm) paid for. I hate when cars in a stop light don't leave enough gap between them.

Hah! My first job was working in an arcade giving out quarters. I was a "currency exchange engineer."

Some drivers will always leave enough room to drive around the car in front of them in case of emergency. They'll try to avoid stopped traffic on both sides of them for the same reason.

At least in my state, if you leave a small gap and are rear ended hard enough to hit the car in front of you, then it is your fault for hitting the car in front of you. Why take the liability to be 1 foot closer to the light?

Also, I've multiple times needed to get out quickly as a semi was barreling down on me and wasn't about to stop. I like having the ability to leave at any moment to avoid being rearended.

I recall learning in driver's ed that you have to leave 1 car length of space. But like, nobody ever does that and it's not really something that's enforced.

This drives me ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANE. Sometimes you have multiple left turn lanes that NO ONE can get into because the folks that are waiting to go straight through the intersection will not close their fucking gaps.

This or just general phone use. People would rather come to a complete stop early and play with their phones, than try to maximize traffic lane usage. It bothers me.

I know that leaving some room is good in case of being rear-ended and maybe some other situations, but I would bet 90% of the time it's due to ppl wanting to play/use/mess on their phones as soon as possible.

Absolutely not. I can't get up to the point where I need to turn right because of these assholes. Then the people backed-up behind me cause congestion at the intersections behind us. It's a cascading effect.

I've driven manual stick-shift vehicles almost exclusively since I started driving in 1995. Sure, leave reasonable gaps on a hill. Waiting at a relatively flat intersection? Close that shit up!

Yup, hate this as well. A lot of times I will just need the guy in front of me to scoot up so i can squeez into the left lane. I am not afraid to give a couple of "courtesy honks" at them. Most of the time they will move.

If there's a turn, yes, close gaps. If not, the second the light turns green, everyone should start moving into their gaps. Make use of them, rather than having every retarded schlub idling from a dead stop to ~13mph one a time like some kind of idiotic dance.

I swear every other animal on this planet has figured out how to move in a pack except humans. We've gotta be military trained to handle it.

They are in a hurry to stop to text to make a call. Meanwhile your trying to make a right but the lane is blocked but if everyone pulled up folks could get by. Its selfish driving.
THIS.

Same as people not pulling up at gas stations pumps where there are multiple pumps and the place is packed. I pull around head into the idiots and make sure my fill up takes longer then theirs muahahaha.
Not such a big deal. Some folks have the gas inlet on the other side of their vehicle, and pulling up would make it less convenient for those people to use the pump behind them. It's a wash, so it doesn't really matter.

We probably have a lot more foreign cars now with the inlet on the wrong side. Heck, my previous car was a 2009 "Chevrolet" Aveo (designed by Daewoo, which Chevrolet eventually bought). Gas inlet was on the passenger side.

People have told me this, but I don't believe it. You have absolutely no control over the mass and velocity of whatever comes up behind you. You could be stopped 5 miles behind and get pushed into someone.

The people around here are REALLY dense. A courtesy honk simply never works.
