do dual-cpu motherboards really exist? google says "no"

does anyone have any information about dual-cpu motherboards? heck, i can't even find a single review after 2001, after hours searching on google. (even overclocker and pc sites)

my key terms were "dual + cpu" and "dual + processor".........

and it is precisely with this innate failing that all fo us have, that i can remove every vestige of ego i might have .....and ask a question.

but i've learned my lesson: next time i'll do a "groogle" search.

(p.s......"SMP" is new to my vocabularly)

not a single one of those hits you mentioned, groogle, was for a socket 939! :roll:

you're right, i never did quite specify that it had to be 939.

but i was indeed referring to "normal" pc usage. how about we re-specify?

is there such thing as a Socket 939 dual-(as in 'simultaneous')cpu motherboard?

you cannot have dual CPu with socket 939. dual core yes, but no dual cpu. it is reserved to the server and opteron cpu. CPu to be used in multi cpu system are often marked to be used as such, by the manufacturer, and since they will be used mostly in server and supersystem, they have to be checked and tested more than desktop cpu, and that's why they cost more. Using normal desktop CPU in server environnement would maybe create problem and send the confidence in the product on the floor and hurt the company. Large business that rely on those server will likely agree to pay for guarrante reliability, and that what the opteron give. That's why Athlon MP (socket 462) were designed for server, and bridged differently than desktop CPU, to prevent the use of standard XP cpu in multi processor motherboard. And those MP, being from the best of the best batch, were amazing overclocker.. just like Opteron for socket 939.
