Well I guess that if Hipster's can be defined as anyone that bucks the trend/normal/accepted, then homosexuality would be a part of nonconformity. However, the vast majority of the homosexual population in my practice are not your flamboyant nonconformists. Their sexual preference is not such because of a need to be nonconformist, nor does it require them to be nonconformist in other aspects of their lives.
In my experience with nonconformist youth, esp in the NYC area, preference is subjugated by a need to rebel. A very immature position IMHO.
