Do I cash the check?

So I'm cleaning my room and I find a check from a a few months ago for $30 for some work that I did for my former supervisor. However, since that time, my supervisor has been placed in the hospital under monitored care, for bipolar disorder. Last I heard he's still there. I'd feel kind of bad to cash the check since he's probably not even making any income right now, but money is money. Though he's made enough over the years (Over $100k/yr.) that he's probably being well taken care of and the check won't bounce.

Well I did consider this guy a friend as well, as opposed to just a coworker. It just feels weird to me to cash a check, knowing that he's in the hospital and could be there for awhile for mental issues. $30 isn't TOO big a deal, but it still is money.

It'd suck too if his funds were depleted and the check bounced.

I doubt that banks will honor the check.

If the check is older than 60 to 90 days, they will not accept the check. You would have to go back to your employer and have him reissue you a new check.

I guess I should've read more carefully. If this is a personal check, then maybe don't do it.

It sounds like you've already made a decision, though.

If the money isn't that big of a deal, I'd cash the check and use the money to buy him a gift and visit him in the hospital.

does it say valid until when ?

Anyway, I wouldn't be so quick to cash it either... medical conditions suck.

I don't think any of these numbnuts are paying attention, but I believe this is true.

He's in the hospital for mental issues. It's not like he is on the deathbed.

Hmmm...buy him a nice Lithium watch

Cheque is good for 6 months unless the cheque specifically says that it's only good for 90 days. I was told this by my bank when I went in to deposit a cheque that was almost 4 months old.

You earned the money so don't feel guilty about collecting. Like other people said, if you feel bad for this person use the money to buy a gift.

I'd let it go. I mean money is money but it's 30 bucks. I agree with those who said to get him something, though i'd do it weither you cashed the check or not. It's just a nice thing to do.

If you do in fact consider this man your friend you could simply visit him in the hospital. This way you get to check his mental status as well as straight out ask him if you can cash the check that you had misplaced until recently.

Don't listen to that Kramer voice inside your head, bad things can happen:

Nana: Hello?

Voice: Hello, this is Chemical Bank. Just wanted you to know that your
checking account is overdrawn.

Nana: Chemical Bank? I haven't used that account in months.

Voice: Well, someone's been cashing the checks and you're overdrawn.

Nana: Oh dear. I'll be down there first thing in the morning...

Jerry: Nana's missing?
