I would add that you have not seen anyone actually claim they have SandForce failures, only people claiming others have issues. Sounds like people like bashing the leader.

I had a Mushkin Callisto (the predecessor to the Chronos, using the same controller as Vertex 2) fail after about a month (unexpected power loss - drive no longer detected in BIOS). I sold the RMA replacement.

I'm not super-anti-OCZ - I am using one of their drives after all - and I would feel reasonably confident with a gen 2 Sandforce drive my system. But there's no way I would get another gen 1 SF drive, no matter how cheap.

As I mentioned, the steady state performance of my V2 is also an issue:

EDIT: I should add that this is a trim-enabled system with 1/4 (14GB) of the drive empty. As it is rarely benchmarked and in a file server, it gets limited write activity. GC just doesn't appear to be functioning.

For comparison, I just benchmarked the 64GB Crucial C300 I have at work (which is in an older, slower computer). Similar size drive from the same generation as the Vertex 2 I benched above - and much more heavily used in my case.

I think the results speak for themselves.

birthdaymonkey is right. I have also faced similar situation & gen 2 of SF is far more superior. I am very eagerly waiting for gen 3 of SF SSD. its entery will certainly revolutionalize the SSD world!

There's something about Anand and hating on OCZ that takes it beyond opinion and into emotionally charged religious hatred.

I never understand it.

The motivation for people to be so against something is not evident to me.

It's just a piece of pc hardware. Lol.

Same reason there was a lot of hate for IBM when they had all those issues with the deathstar 75gxp, people really hate losing data. I'd honestly rather lose any other piece of hardware over my hard drive. Replacing other components is simple and nothing is lost except a little bit of time and maybe money. With a hard drive failure I lose time, money, and most importantly my valuable data. I've lost my data twice in the short time I was using an OCZ drive.

The same reason you hate WD Green hard drives. Because you had a few fail (while others have not).

No different here with other peoples' experiences with OCZ.

Hi everyone, my name is Max. I had a problem.

It all started when I was a child, and bought a Vertex 2 drive.

It affected my friends and family.

A few months after I installed one in my gf's laptop, it died an untimely death. She lost her thesis. I was to blame.

Lesson, stay away from Vertex 2 drives.

/end storytime

On a different note, my Kingston V100(s), Crucial C300, Intel 320, OCZ Vertex 3, and Corsair GS are all still kicking fine.
