Refurbished means that ocz themselves practically turned the ssd into a new one but you only get a limited warranty on it.

  • Limited Warranty period (parts): 180 days
  • Limited Warranty period (labor): 180 days
I'd go for it, if it won't break in 6 month it'll probably work for as long as a new one.

Should have gone for the brand-new Intel X25-M G2 160GB drive for $90 AR at TD, when it was available.

When the 250GB Samsung 840 has been on sale for $150 and even $135 (60 and 54 cents/GB), I didn't consider 56 cents to be a deal, especially considering its write performance.

Depends what you want to use it for. If it is for valuable data I would say no. I’ve got a number of different OCZ drives but I only use them for testing and then after that I use them for paper weights or maybe as UBS drives for xfering files.

I got one of these for my Thinkpad X200s and have been very pleased. It increased my battery life a bit over the 128GB m4 that was in there before, and since the machine is SATA-II anyway, I don't notice a performance difference.

Plus, I always wanted an X25 G1/G2 when they were the drive to get but couldn't afford one. Now I own a piece of SSD history!

Of course, there's the legendary reliability and endurance. Well worth the 56 cents/GB. Performance isn't always the primary consideration.

To the OP, I wouldn't get a Vertex 2. First gen Sandforce is probably the sketchiest controller in the last couple years. I have a 50GB Vertex 2 in my HTPC/server and its performance has significantly degraded over time. They also have issues with sleep and just seem to fail at an alarming rate. The Vertex 2 is probably the biggest (SSD) contributor to OCZ's bad reputation.

Makes me sad that the current best SSDs -- in most categories: Plextor M3/P, Samsung 830/P, Crucial were all discontinued and have become scare commodities. OCZ SSDs don't even deserve to be at the end of a ten foot pole.

Never got all the hating for Vertex 2 (at least the 34nm ones). Just bought one, flashed it to 1.37, and have been hammering it for the past 2 weeks with nary a problem, just like my other 120GB Vertex 2s.

My Vertex 2 is still going strong at 3 years.

I think it was mostly the Vertex 3's that had most of the issues. The 4's seem to be pretty decent and I've only heard good things so far about the Vector.

Nope, wouldn't touch the Vertex 2 or any other SSD based on gen 1 Sandforce controller.

Sandforce Gen 2 is alright, I own 5 SSDs based on SF-2281 and haven't had any issues. (Only got them after the FW was fixed though)

Refurbished Vertex 2 180GB. $70 after rebate and 10% v.me. 39 cents per GB.

I've bought many refurbished items, including my 47" Vizio HDTV and just bought a refurbished Motorola modem 2210. I've never had any problems. Oh, I also bought a refurbished Garmin GPS unit. Please remember that a refurbished item has been returned to the manufacturer and gone over with a fine tooth comb and brought back to factory original condition after correcting the reason for the return. Do what you feel is safe but I will never turn down a refurbished item if the price is right. Good luck.

I have had 2 Agility 2s die on me, one was the RMA replacement. And that one was iffy from the beginning.

I dared last thanksgiving and got a Vertex 3 for $50. Have it as the system drive for my HTPC, so far so good, although needed a firmware upgrade, before that lots of random writes would crash the drive. Moral of the story, never use OCZ for anything critical, and count every day as a blessing.

I would add that you have not seen anyone actually claim they have SandForce failures, only people claiming others have issues. Sounds like people like bashing the leader.
