I just bought an Antec earthwatts 430 november 1st, i put my computer together around the 5th, and today i turn it on and...NOTHING! no power to mobo, no fans, no nothing. Has anyone else had this happen? I got this because everyone recommended Antec for reliability and performance.

What happened?

Is this your first time turning it on? Has it worked previously? Did you recheck that the case power wire is connected correctly?

LOL, it's been working fine, and it was working fine all yesterday...last night i turned it off, today i turned it on but instead nothing happened...i checked the power supply an cables/connections, etc. even with a multimeter that I dug up...it's the PSU

You have an overclocked CPU and GPU. Maybe because it's only a EarthWatts 430W? It might have worked at first because the PSU can put out 430W @ 50°C, but long term stress has likely taken it's toll on the unit.

does anyone know about the quality of this? I've already got a refund RMA coming for my Antec, now i want to know what to get...

Raidmax is a very random bag, and the fact that they UL list their products under their own name means you have no idea what you're getting until you get it.

Like AmberClad suggests, I'd rather take my chances with another Antec.

I'll end up getting the $65 back that I bought it for. I actually just went with the OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS that I put up there since AnandTech recommended it and I looked over some other reviews and they seemed for the most part positive. This way if it's really what JohnnyGuru said regarding the PSU overloading, than this way I have the extra power to avoid that problem. I think 600 will be more than enough...That and I know Newegg will have that at my door by monday where as Clubit won't be able to get a replacement here until Friday...so that kind of sealed the deal, after all it's finals week next week!

Thanks JohnnyGuru for that advice, I never looked at it that way and thinking about it, I suppose it makes sense that the PSU failed, thought I was told it'd be sufficient. It died after burning 5 DVD's and then playing CoH for 3hrs. straight followed by an immediate shutdown...I suppose in that event it's likely that is in fact the problem.

OCZ isn't a bad choice, it should be enough power for ya ... 75$ is a pretty decent price too ...

For the tons of PSU that we sell, our failure rate is low. Still that means that failures can happen. From what you have in your post, I'm guessing your machine pulls 300+/? Watts. That PSU should handle it for years. If you have something like a water cooler, I could be wrong. You can do your own inventory at http://www.extreme.outervision.com/powercalc.jsp and see what you come up with.

To RMA your PSU, start with a ticket at http://www.antec.com/newticket.html

that's actually around what i should be pulling (I used that calculator) it came out to somewhere in the 340watts zone give or take, which is why i couldn't figure this out. Regardless, I bumped up to the OCZ just to ensure that it wasn't the power that was the issue. Being the final 2 weeks of college, i NEED a PSU in my computer like a.s.a.p. I've got files and papers that cannot be retrieved until this comes back online and i'm really in a bind. so waiting for the RMA and even cross-shipping would've taken too long (next Friday at the earliest according to the Antec CSR's). I'll get the OCZ on Monday, so that's another reason i went with OCZ

I just had a brand new Antec die myself.

Just installed a PC P&C silencer 750, hopefully it will last a little longer than a month.

Build it Myself, did you do any troubleshooting to make sure that the PSU is dead and not some other part? The PSU won't register anything on a multimeter if it doesn't power up and if the board doesn't power up then the PSU won't power up.

Zap, when I throw the switch on the PSU (not the power button on the computer) I should have voltage to the main lead that would run to the mobo, right? there's nothing there...and the IP35Pro that i has a red LED that should light up if there was power coming to it...these are all brand new parts and i'm quite positive it's the PSU, it's just strange this happened.

If you want high quality Seasonic//Corsair is the way to go, COrsair has 5 years, but I do believe ANtec EW is Seasonic built, just get a replacement, should be okay, Antec should be decent on customer service.

Just the +5VSB lead. The others will be dead until the board "tells" the PSU to turn on.

Assuming the board is good. I think we can assume it's not grounded out since you had this all running previously.

Test the PSU "stand alone" with a paper clip and a DMM before we jump the gun:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/atx/

If that powers up, try good ol' fashioned troubleshooting:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/article_details.php?id=117

Maybe another part failed, causing a short, preventing the PSU from delivering power.
