Seem to be the same dudes who talk non stop about how much the love pussy. Yet the place you went, a PERFECT spot to find pussy, they're afraid of. Fuckers like that should be running to a tanning salon. They go to sport bars surrounded by sausage and would have the nerve to question you for going to chick central HA.

I go to the nail shop once in awhile to get a pedicure. Amazing how many females are there, and a man? Only if he's way off in the waiting room. I'll be the only dude surrounded by tons of ladies. I get to sit and talk for 15-20 minutes to all kinds of females, and most it not all dig the fact I don't care about my "man card" and how they find men who aren't afraid to get a manicure sexy. Mind you, they're not saying I'M sexy, just in general lol.

I'm with you, and am glad I find the whole man card business to be a huge joke.

OP - you should look into Mystic Tans, they look like a real tan, but it's done with a spray. Not cheap, but no harmful anything, quick and looks awesome. Even works for Gingers (like me) who really can't tan well at all.
You'll never end up with any woman you find in any of these places. Why? Because you're stuck in the friends zone by virtue of your association with such effeminate activity. Sorry about your luck.

It must suck to be so insecure.

Let him believe what he wants, that just means more females for me He speaks from his theory, which he hasn't actually tested. If men caught on to what I know, a Nail Salon would be FULL of dudes and it would either be a damn lot of competition for me, or a flat out sausage fest. I hope him and most other men continue to think they way they do. Now I don't mind competition, but right now it's like taking candy from a baby, if I can get it without the other men trying to muscle in, hay less work for me

You lose more man-points worrying about losing man-points than you do paying for a tan.

Tanning bed tans look different. I'm not sure why, but I can tell the difference. In addition to that, paying somebody to destroy your skin is ridiculous. Get a job working construction. You'll get paid for your skin cancer, and also build muscles ;^)

No, you just lose cash on something you could get for free. With that being said, I like going to tanning beds in spring just because I burn so easily and feel like it is a lot easier to get a base tan from a bed than outside.

luckily I already got my base tan going when it was mid 90's here last week or so doing yard work without a short on, only tan lines I ever get are around my waist and
just up above my knees. I tried the tanning bed along time ago, completely naked, walked out with a red behind, not going to try that again

When I was in my early 20's my good friends SO worked at a tanning place and let us all go for free whenever we wanted, so I gave it a try a few times.

I really didn't like the "cooking" smell that I noticed after a full tanning session, the smell was my skin, gross.

It seemed to me that I was more prone to burn in a tanning bed than good 'ol direct sun light also.

No it is not bad for a guy to tan. I honestly think most folks look better with a little color.
I tan and enjoy it; especially in the winter time.
For me, it is better to tan 10 minutes a few times a week than lay out in the sun for hours. I burn less in a controlled enviorment of a tanning salon.

Girls who go tanning look pretty wretched when they get older. I know a few girls in their 30s that tanned avidly in their 20s. Look like dried up lizards now. Nasty. The pasty girls who didn't go tanning are still looking great. Give me a fair skinned girl anytime. Girls who are totally brown in the middle of winter look stupid if you ask me. We're supposed to be pale. Pale skin is beautiful.

Tanning in prep for a vacation is perfectly acceptable. It just make sense. Sun burns can easily ruin a vacation. Now if you are tanning on a regular basis for no reason other than to just be tan, that calls for immediate revoking of the man card.

don't look at it as losing man points. look at it as gaining a vagina.

$54.95 for one month unlimited usage. $12 per walk-in session on their middle-power tanning beds. I did my first session at the walk-in rate to see how I liked it, and got the unlimited package before leaving. If I go twice a week, which is actually on the low side according to the counter girl, I beat the walk-in rate by over $40.

BTW I'm pretty burned today. Didn't know those things were that powerful.

There really is no difference between a bed and outside. You get the same radiation, it is just a concentrated dose that equals a certain amount in the actual sun. You also still get the Vitamin D production.

I've tanned before, such as before going on a cruise. The only way it really helps prevent burning, is the same as getting a base tan outside with a ton of sunblock. You prep your skin by getting it lightly tanned, which makes your skin a little conditioned to the radiation, requiring more exposure to get burnt than if you had not built a base tan.

(sister use to work at a tan salon)

If I didn't have that bias against them (teh girly men go there), I'd probably go in the winter just for the radiation treatment. See - exposure to the sun gets chemicals going, and for some reason it's been strongly reported that going to a tanning salon in the winter can help shake the winter blues (if you get them). With the lack of sun I get in the winter, I think that is what kind of helps give me them winter blues.
But... having a tan in the winter? Definitely makes you standout as a salon customer. I'm not one of those preppy frat boys, and I sure as hell don't want to share their bromance traditions. :shudders:
But I do look damn good in a tan. And the women at most... goddamit my sister worked at one. argh

Hmm...destrekor, can you provide any medical studies that agree with these points. I'm curious.

1) I was certain that the depth of penetration was different between the two types of tanning, and that an artificially tanned skin can still be burned the same as fair skin.

2) The base tan really isn't the same due to differences in exposure time, UV light, and penetration.

3) From what I've seen, tanning in itself is what brings about pleasurable feelings rather than it being a direct cure for SAD.

It's been a while since I've read about artificial tanning, so maybe it's much safer now. I've always thought it was a bit more dangerous, especially at the level of frequency that most people do it. It would be nice to have someone in the medical field reply.

IIRC there is a difference between a sun bed and tanning outside.

In short its complicated.

There is a difference between UVA and UVB when it comes to tanning and the ratio of each.

UVB is well known to cause burns and DNA damage so the FDA aren't keen on people cooking themselves with it
A small amount of exposure to UVB causes damage which the body repairs and causes the melanocytes to produce more melanin, which can result in a longer lasting tan.

UVA is primarily used in sunbeds, and is capable of causing erythema (redness) but it has a lower capacity to do so than UVB.
UVA penetrates further through the skin.
UVA causes the oxidation of the melanin already present (resulting in a short term tan).

A sunbed tan is roughly equivalent to a factor 2-4 suntan lotion. The minimum you should use if you are out in the sun is 15. So going to the tanning booth is no excuse not to apply suntan lotion!

Also it is the total amount of UV radiation received over your lifetime that is responsible for the increased risk of skin cancer.

As for Sunbeds and SAD - Yes the act of pampering yourself will probably help. However there have been studies which show that light helps alleviate symptoms. Again IIRC the studies showed that the timing of the exposure was important (early morning exposure was more beneficial) as well as the location of the exposure on the body, with the back of the knees being a particularly good spot. Obviously during winter months when you are wrapped up the backs of your knees will receive very little direct sunlight...

Sorry about the long post.

That is bad. If you are going to do it again take it easier OK?
