A lot of fucking morons in here. A lot of women like a man with a tan. I've personally debated it, as I enjoy the company of women. But I don't think that I'd fit in the tanning bed Plus, I have a fairly new tattoo and don't feel like nuking it.

A tan is great when you're outside working in the yard with your shirt off and going to the beach, etc. A natural tan makes you glow and has nice color variations. Your hair also lightens while outside in the summer. That sandy, tanned look is great.

The artificial uniform tan from a tanning bed looks dumb. I think fake tans look just that = fake. It's like fake boobs, calf implants, whitened teeth that look beyond white to absurdly unnatural . . . Just reeks of insecurity and obsession with image. Truly attractive people look fantastic without artificial help. And they look even better when nature and the elements do their magic.

Their is a world of difference between tanning and teeth whitening compared to any sort of implant.

I'm perfectly secure in my looks. But dressing nice and looking nice definitely help, and different people have different opinions on what looks nice. That being said, I've still never done anything but lift weights to improve my looks.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it's dumb.

Lying down in a tanning bed is dumb. I'm not going to budge on this. Lifting weights is fantastic. I do that too. But that's to build strength so I don't tire out in the garden when I'm hauling loads of rocks or splitting firewood, etc. THis is also my tanning time. YOu'd be amazed how much color you can get in the winter by being outdoors and getting fresh air doing something physical.

Am I more girly-man now than I was this morning?

BTW If you haven't guessed, da wimminz at the tanning salon. Jeezuz. I don't care what anyone thinks...I'm hooked.

I love being black, natural "tan" all year round and the closest thing I've ever had to a sunburn was a little flaky skin behind my ear after 8 hours of fishing in the summer.

I never understood the whole fake tan thing. Do something outside every other day and you'll get some nice natural looking color, not some shitty orange mess or unnatural baked tone. Plus the tanning beds look unhealthy. Sometimes people look fine with their natural color, I'm amazed that they think they need to tan at all. Theres nothing wrong with being pale. Besides, your skin wont look like leather in the long run if you don't tan too often.

If you know as little about tanning as you do about teeth whitening then I will understand that you are completely misinformed.

Yellow teeth look bad. A dentist will whiten your teeth to their natural halo. They will also caution you that anything more than this is bad as it will make your teeth look fake and distracting. So anyone who has done this, has done it on their own accord. In other words, whitening your teeth within reason is perfectly fine. And while I've never tanned (I'm a pale fucker), I would be willing to guess it's probably the same with tanning.

I have gotten dates with females who have seen me and told me they started to talk to me because I had a manicure. It threw them off initially, which peaked their interests and once we started to talk we hit it off.

I agree with you that places females frequent and males don't (nail salons, yoga, etc.) are great places to talk to women - lots of opportunities. Too bad for the pansy men who are too afraid of losing their man card to hang out at those places.

However, I don't include tanning salons on that list. I think tanning is extremely unhealthy (others have posted evidence here) and I don't need to be associated with women who do it. Plenty of smart, interesting women elsewhere who don't take such a stupid risk.

If I see a woman with a fake tan, the first thing I think is "dumb bitch". That's a huge turn off, and is an absolute deal breaker as far as relationships go.

Some people go before going to a tropical destination, to prevent looking like a lobster. While you may take your shirt off in the middle of winter to get some sun, most would think you are an idiot. To each their own.

Poor, poor Caucasoid. Having to resort to Weird Science? just to achieve what I was born with. I don't think any less of your manliness, but I do pity your white mans burden.

I saw some thirty-somethings in there who looked fantastic. I also saw some thirty-somethings who had tanned themselves to the color and texture of old leather. And they were still coming in for sessions. As far as that goes I'm with you. I guess some girls can get hooked on tanning or something. I assume that the ones that still looked good were those who typically tanned for the same reason I'm trying to; to kick-start their tan going into the summer. So once again the rule of thumb must be "everything in moderation". I really don't plan to go back after this month.

I don't think we're supposed to be pale, we're also not supposed to be wrinkled mahogany (white folks anyway). I think that the skin problems and bad complexions that many people who don't get enough sun have is evidence of this. My complexion is already a bit better than it was before (although it's never been bad actually).

Yes... but the alternative is to look like me. I've done a little bit of outdoor work in the sun, and already have a farmer tan. Just waiting for the racoon eyes to come in cause I wear sunglasses most of the time when I'm out.

Oil bill last winter: $45. Average house temp with J0tul stove: 75F. Free stone walls and big muscles. Sounds good to me!

Sure, its artificial UV production, so its not going to match what you get from the Sun. But if you're in a good quality bed, it should be the right kinds of UV to produce melanin.

If you have built up melanin in your skin (a tan), then yes, that will protect you better from sun burn.
