On the system profiled below I should have 512mb ram. It is only showing 480mb? Do I need a new sim? My audio and video stutters at times and I have tried everything to diagnose it except new memory. I just noticed the 480mb a little while ago. I am thinking this could be the "STUTTERING" culprit? Suggestions please? Also, is there anything I can do to upgrade this pc? Thanks.

Correct. Audio/video stuttering "at times", when running smoothly the rest of the time, won't go away with a graphics card update either. Find out what background task or other possible disturbances are happening at "those" times, and eliminate those. You may have tasks that run every minute/hour/day, and it may also be something like the machine overheating and going into degraded-performance mode.

Ok, added a AIW 9800 video card I had stashed away. Corrected my ram problem. I still have the audio stuttering. It stutters periodically playing mp3's, CD,s and even through the AIW player. I've tried MSCONFIG, DXDIAG and other registry cleaners and fixer-uppers. Nothing seems to work. Could it be the Logitech speakers I have connected? CPU? HDD? HELP!!!!!!!!! I've researched it quite throughly on the internet. Seems to happen a lot. But can't seem to find a appropriate fix. Input GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

What about this entry? Is it needed? Can I disable it some how?

It is not needed if you have a dedicated sound card (but it doesn't look like you do). If you do, disable that on-board SiS in your BIOS setup.

I tried a SB audio card yesterday. Had same problem. Returned it and figured it must be software or hardware related. any Ideas?

It's probably just a software problem. Play it with this player (mplayer-gui) and see if it still happens. If it persists, load up the NT performance monitor (perfmon.msc) and determine the bottleneck. We'll worry about that later though. Just see what happens with mplayer. Mplayer (GNU) is different in that it largely does not use Windows components to play media.

You'll need WinRAR or 7-zip to extract this package: http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer/gui/mplayer-gui-rtm-svn-21682.7z

that was not a problem... where do you think the onboard video take the memory from for operation??? the 9800 has memory on the board, so system memory is not needed for operation.

So that was not a problem.. that was completly normal.

I tried Mplayer. No luck! Mp3's still stuttering. What can I try next? How do I use and interpet perfmon.msc? Could it be the speakers? I've done the following;
1) Installed and tried seperate sound card. Same problem. Removed.
2) Updated Realtek AC97 Audio drivers.
3) Installed AIW Video Card
4) Tried Mplayer
5) Ran PCpitstop optimizer and shut down all unnecessary startup programs

See, I told you what wouldn't help and what to /actually/ look for in my first post to this thread.

Narrowed it down to my new NETGEAR WN311b ADAPTER CARD. Seems they have had similar problems with this card. I am trying the new beta drivers they suggested. Hope it works.
