Do laptops really need surge protectors?

I just bought a laptop a sony Viao pcg-z505js. Do i need one of those 1 outlet surge protectors i see at stores? Does anyone have any experience with this? These also have phoneline protection. I just remember reading a while back that laptop modems fry really easily.

It never hurts. I personally only trust my computer equipment to APC surge suppressors and my main machine is on a voltage regulating APC UPS.

Ah thanx, yea i just wasn't sure. Also, the APC laptop surge protector i just bought could be smaller Guess i'll have to bring it with me anyways. My system runs on a APC surge protector, no ups though.
