I just posted about how I sent the card back for a free replacement. Since they don't carry Geforce anymore, they will be giving me a newer AMD card.

It just so happens that I am ready to give this PC to my son as a replacement for that, but with the price gouging going on with the non reference 290s going on, I will be waiting for it to either settle down or Nvidia's next gen to come out.

Since I am waiting, my son needs a graphic card to have a working computer. Since XFX has a lifetime warranty, I pay nothing(in theory.. we shall see if they fulfill their terms).

9800s aren't made anymore... not sure what an equivalent that IS on sale, that would fit fine into a 6 year old PC would cost.. but it wouldn't be free.

What's the point of a life-time warranty? None of these companies will be around before your life-time ends, anything above 5 years is unnecessary as most people will upgrade before then, and the resell value of a replacement card at that point will be close to nil anyway.

Always wondered if BFG went under because of their lifetime warranty (which didn't apply in Europe anyhow). When my 8800GT went Nvidia-bad, BFG had just gone bankrupt and I thought that was more than coincidence. Maybe they got hit hard by Nvidia's 65nm bumpgate parts and couldn't cope?

Anyway, 'lifetime' seem as likely to be be the company's lifetime rather than the owner's. More of a sales gimmick. As for general video card reliability, I think GPUs are probably the up there with HDDs, RAM and motherboards in terms lack of longevity. And it's not wattage (although that obviously doesn't help), as CPUs tend to last 'forever'.

I just explained why it was important to me. Additionally, as technology is slowing down in its amount of improvement and speed of new generations, technology is going to last longer.

I have that card. It is pretty quiet even with 100% fan usage compared to the reference cooler. And it is quieter than my h100i as well. My 3D mark 2013 temps mostly stay in 50s-70s under extreme tests maxed out at default speeds which are oced by default. You can't beat this card for the $460 you get it on amazon. The only better card I hear is one by sapphire.

I considered this card, but there are no official reviews for it and the user reviews complain about excessive coil whine/noise. I'm not sold on how well MSI has cooled the card compared to say, Sapphires(which has poor warranty).

Hi, I've got two and neither of them have coil whine or excessive noise. One does have some fan whine @ 100% but under gaming it doesn't ever reach 100% so I don't care.

It's a great card for gaming due to being quiet and cooling decently (stays mid 70s C with my typical gaming loads).

It's pretty terrible for mining with a single card going as high as 88C core at 100% fan, but that doesn't matter if you don't care about mining.

i'm curious about this, too. i'm advising a friend on a build, and my only reason for XFX is their--according to Newegg--lifetime warranty...

I heard it was because of the Fermi fiasco, or should I say the very very late GTX 480.

what the difference when it comes to Limited Lifetime vs Lifetime warranty?

and I don't blame companies for ending lifetime warranty. I've known some people who abused the lifetime warranty and find a way to RMA a card way after it was discontinued in hope of getting a newer current gen card "equivalent"

PNY is one year extended to "lifetime of the original purchaser" if you register it on their website within 90 days of purchase. They're had this for their XLR8 line of cards for about four years now. Its basically what EVGA used to have with their "AR" series cards.

Yep registered my pny right after I bought it for the lifetime warranty. EVGA requires that you register within 30 days of purchase to retain the lifetime warranty.

I had an XFX 8800gt go bad on me after 3.5 years. They replaced it with a newer ATI card that ran far quieter and was about 20% faster than the old card. It saved me from having to upgrade for another year.

They also replaced my standard 7970 with a Ghz edition after 9 months. The new card is voltage locked, but the old one ran 15 degrees hotter and wasn't stable overclocked anyway. The replacement is also covered lifetime.

I wouldn't have paid extra for the lifetime warranty, but it convinced me to buy the cheaper XFX card over its more expensive competitors.

lifetime is forever.

limited lifetime is when that product is out of production.
