Oh my god, tons. Google Mandopop, Cantopop, Pinoy Rock, Pinoy Hiphop, K-Pop, and J-Pop. There's a big rock and jazz scene in Japan, rock to a lesser extent in China, Hong Kong in particular. There's a small but growing rap scene in East-Asia too. The Philippines is known for rock and hiphop. The music industry in Japan alone is probably as big as North America's. Pretty much every young Japanese star has been in one of these J-Pop bands at some point. It's just not vary popular here outside of the Otaku and Asian community. I don't listen to this stuff myself but I have friends that do.

His thread title says Non-American...and his implies that all English-Speaking bands are American...which they are not.
If you read the rest of the OP he continues to explain any bands that are popular world-wide and known by all yet don't speak English. There are none. He's trying to get at Pop status but no none English speaking bands or artists have.
I'm pretty sure you guys have heard of Daft Punk.
I've never heard of him. Haven't ever seen him on tv or anything and I watch tv every day and read the news as well so how is he a pop icon over here? I guarantee you if I ask random people on the street who this guy is they won't know so he doesn't work either.

I don't get it... so you want to know about non-english speaking bands that are popular in their respective countries, and that AREN'T popular in america. And you expect us, an American heavy forum, to know about these bands that aren't popular in our country or even in our language? And of course if we knew about them, doesn't that defeat the purpose of what you're looking for?
My retard-o-meter doesn't go high enough to read this thread accurately
