i learned not to buy from tigerdirect after they burned me back in 1997 on my first order

i ordered a monitor and desktop with 3 day shipping, and finally got the monitor after 3 weeks

the desktop never came and it took 2 months of battling via calls, emails and a freaking snailmail letter to get the money back. they kept insisting that it was coming despite not having any of that computer in stock. and then they somehow lost the record of my order in their system.

Never bought anything from them, but I did used to get their catalog back in the day. It was good reading material while on the can.

It's good for another warning, has been mentioned in the not too distant past.

Everything they sold was only at a decent price after their crap rebates which they tried every trick in the book to hold onto your money for the longest possible time anyway.

I'm not even sure its legal to not offer returns or exchanges if you get a defective item from a company.

...Rather, retailers are required to accept returns only if the sold good is defective or if they otherwise break the sales contract.
In addition to retailers being required to accept the return of defective items, federal law provides a "Cooling-Off Rule " giving buyers three days to cancel purchases of $25 or more. Under this rule, the right to cancel for a full refund extends until midnight of the third business day after the sale. The rule applies to sales at the buyer's home or workplace, at facilities rented by the seller on a temporary basis, or at locations otherwise away from the seller's normal retail location.

Iirc, a couple years ago someone from TD squatted on AT forums to be a contact for resolving customer service issues that came up. I think that lasted about 2 weeks, or until his voicemail filled up.

I bought a lot from them in 2013-2014, somewhere around 75 refurbished systems I then resold to local businesses needing to upgrade off of Windows XP. Never had an issue other than occasionally getting a sub-par hard drive, which I just factored into the resale price having to buy a hard drive for like every 5th system. A reliable core 2 duo system with a legit Windows 7 license for $100-$130 per system, I made a lot of money off of those

Their retail locations near me are all closed up, I'm sure they are in the process of shutting down their business altogether. Not a surprise they don't want returns.

Sad to hear because I had a corporate account with them back in 1988 and bought from them for over 10 years without a hitch. Can only recall 1 or 2 issues with returned merchandise for defective issues. They cried and cried like a salesman trying to hold out for the best deal but I explained to them that if this could not be remedied, we would hand the problem over to our legal department. It was remedied. We Cali peeps like the court system especially when it comes to merchandising over the Internet. The rules change and are dramatically on the side of the consumer here in Cali

I bought this 28" HNC LCD monitor from them back around 2004 (black friday?)... still works great. I think I only had 1 other transaction from them but it went smoothly too.

Yeah but the whole being a pain to return things is the whole problem. I'll stick with Amazon for most of my things. It's just a few clicks, a return label and you're done.

I'll ask this again with Amazon - it's not a free return unless you choose something that basically says it was their mistake (wrong description, wrong item delivered, etc). Is that what you guys do every time?

That, or if it's defective. I try not to abuse it, amazon has been super good to me in the past. Bought a large item, while it was on the way I realized I could get the same thing for cheaper elsewhere, asked amazon if it was too late to send it back, they said 'it's on us'. Granted, I've had prime for a while.

Tiger Direct has always been on my s#!7 list since the 90s. Items were always backordered, screwed me on rebates, and horrid CS. No idea how they lasted so long...

never had a problem with TD. only ordered a few times. Always got my rebates too.

Same here, the 15-20 items I've bought from them over the years shipped quick, came through with mail-in rebates, and never gave me problems. The website itself wasn't so bad either, puts something like Target's website to shame even.

Yes but I try not to return often. Most of the time if it's a price change or something I can just email them and they'll credit me the difference.

Same. I also choose not to take advantage of the free UPS pick-up when doing returns like this.

And sometimes instead of a return label, you'll get a message just to keep the product, you'll be refunded in a couple days.
