I stockpile burritos for a quick reheated meal in 70 seconds. Make a batch of 14 burritos at a time. It takes an hour or so to cook/wrap the batch. Of course I have to freeze some.
I spend exactly the amount of time it takes. The effort you put in equals the result. If you put in little to no effort then you eat shit food that plops out of a can like a giant turd onto your plate.
I like to cook and take great pleasure in making a tasty meal that my wife and I can enjoy or cooking for small groups of friends.
When I want to eat, I want to eat. I don't want to spend three hours preparing to eat and another two hours cleaning up the preparation devices. I crack a can or a package, I heat it., I eat it. On rare occasions, I make a pot of soup or cook a turkey, but the goal is not the immediate eats, rather to portion out portions to freeze, so I can heat and eat immediately another time without all the preparation.
I wasted 3 whole minutes preparing some ramen today. It's some new to me Taiwanese miso ramen. The directions on the package were overcomplicated, so I simplified, and it turned out good. I'm gonna buy more. I want something on hand that isn't highly flavored. Most of my ramen is highly flavored, highly spicy.
I wasted like an hour making some rice, and some Japanese style curry with vegetables, potatoes, and leftover pork shoulder I roasted.
Usually I love thai curries best, but ths turned out really awesome this time. I'm glad I grabbed a 10 pound pork shoulder when I was at the store last weekend so I can roast another one some day.
