bell peppers are the most disgusting thing on the planet.

agreed

Bell peppers are one of the more refreshing vegetables. Love then diced in a cold salad. But then I love most vegetables anyway especially green ones. I'd rather eat chinese broccoli than a steak.
I can't stand certain mushrooms though. After eating a couple, they give me a weird feeling and I start to gag.

Hey, it makes it easy to stay thin. I'm on the "Food Sucks" diet.
Couple that with a microscopic stomach. My parents eventually realized that what I had said was true - taking me along to all-you-can-eat buffets was a waste of money. I'd get one plate of food and that'd be it. Half of a Domino's pizza or two McDonalds/BurgerKing cheeseburgers counts as a full meal for me. Much more and I start to get into "I overate" territory, which is really quite unpleasant.

I don't understand people who spend over an hour preparing their meals, and using so many dishes that it takes 20 minutes to clean up.

Then it takes 5 minutes to devour the meal. And the end result: you're not hungry anymore. Yay.
My secondary goal: Cook with stuff that can get tossed in the dishwasher.

Maybe I'll wind up writing a cookbook eventually. It will have 10 recipes, and they will all take less than 1hr to make, excluding baking time - it's not like you have to do anything to bake food. It just sits in the oven, leaving you much free time to go nef.

The only kind of pickiness that bothers me is when they never want to try new stuff. One of my friends only ever wants to go someplace like Jimmy John's or another crummy boring lunch chain. I have convinced him on several occasions to try something more interesting, but when he does go along with it, he only enjoys it about half the time, if that. It's not too bad, though. Also, I can be picky as well, but in the other direction - I'm always willing to try a new restaurant, but I'm resistant to going to chain restaurants. I think he's afraid of not enjoying his food while I am more afraid of being bored with my food.

this

People who care even the slightest about what other people's taste preferences are should be burned alive.

I have a weird thing about onions and peppers. I can only eat them if they don't over power the food like burger meat cooked with onion or any mayo based salad with onion. Stuff like that.

I don't mind JITB's mayo-onion sauce, or something cooked with some onion powder... I even like Fun-Yun's but I can't stand eating onions or having onions on anything...

QTF! Onions are my lest favorite thing ever, and I've tried them prepared ways "you'll like!" according to my sister. There's no such thing as a edible Onion. I don't even like too much Onion powder. JITB's sauce is ok because it really doesn't have an onion taste.

followed closely by Bell Peppers, Mushrooms & Broccoli.

Veggies have no place on a burger. A burger is meat + cheese + more meat. I like my burger to be hot, when I'm eating a hot burger and bite into a cold veggie it makes my mouth unhappy. And I think a hot tomato would be even more nasty on one lol.

People who like HOT and COLD in the same bite aren't human. And 2 of my favorite burgers come standard with no veggies on them at all. So there must be quite a few people unhuman like me who don't like nasty ass veggies on a HAMBURGER. I wouldn't put veggies on a Steak or Chicken so why the hell would I want to put them on a Hamburger?

Nah, I disagree. Both the vegetables you mentioned can cause serious gastric distress for many people. Personally, I like both, but not everyone can eat everything...

IMO, if you're invited to my house for a meal...You'd better let me know of any dietary issues/dislikes BEFORE you show up to eat. Otherwise, you either eat what's served...or go without. If you have serious food allergies, just politely decline with the explanation of food allergies. I understand that issue, but refuse to make accomodations in my house.

(gawd help you if you have peanut allergies...Peanut Butter cookies are my favorite and my wife makes them all the time for me...especially in the winter.)

I border on becoming a biological weapon if I eat any more than a very small amount of onions...

meh...EVERYTHING gives me copious amounts of gas...

My mom once bought me a shirt that said:

"World's Largest Source of Natural Gas."

On a bad day, I can easily clear a room...

On a GOOD day, I can clear a National Park...

I could understand if a person said they weren't fond of a certain type of food, but to ignorantly declare the culinary traditions of billions of people as disgusting makes you appear to be a freaking moron.

It's very flavorful, unlike a lot of European and American food (though there are many exceptions to this and I like a lot of European and American food too).

Brought my girlfriend to a Thai restaurant and she got green curry with tofu. She liked it so much she told me it was now one of her favorite foods ever (she'd never had Thai food before). I also introduced her to Indian food last week and she loved that too. Until now she's always had a very plain, bland midwestern upbringing.

It's fine if you don't like it, but declaring that ALL Asian and Indian food is bad is a bit extreme, since there are so many variations. Perhaps you're just very, very picky and only like a small number of things, but it seems strange that you'd dislike everything from a huge area of the world but be fine with everything else.

Nah...it makes him an American...

I don't like Indian food either, (dot, not feather) and MOST Asian food is unpalatable to me.

Yes, I enjoy many types of Japanese food, but other than sushi/sashimi, don't care for the vast variety of fish they eat. Same with Chinese food. I like to go to our local Chinese restaurant...and eat the Americanized Chinese foods, but I stay far away from the Chinese menu they also offer.

For those of us who grew up on "whitebread" American diets, much of what the world eats IS disgusting...For proof, see Andrew Zimmern's show, "Bizarre Foods," where he travels the world, eating all manner of disgusting foods that are relatively common fare in that part of the world.

As I'm sure several have said...pickiness, some, but not so much. Whiny holier-than-thou drama queen "everything I don't like is deadly poison and you're all stupid for liking it so I always get to choose where we eat" bullcrap? Yeah.

What about people with religious requirements? Man they can be annoying. I'm not talking about "can't eat pork" or "can't eat beef". That's easy enough. It's the people that have to eat halal meat (animals are killed facing a certain direction etc).

One time we went on a team building for work and this dude would not eat anywhere that wasn't halal. Took us like an hour to find a place to eat and it was overpriced and crappy. Needless to say he wasn't very popular.

And equally stupid is the "you're an asshole for NOT liking it" stuff too. It's not their fault they don't like ethnic food.

People have their preferences. Though I do feel sorry for American kids raised on Kraft macaroni & cheese, Hamburger Helper, Wonder bread, Skippy peanut butter, ketchup, McDonald's, and any number of other entirely flavorless food-like products that make American cuisine look bad. I don't fault them for not liking interesting food, but their weak, underdeveloped taste buds simply reject anything that contains flavors.

There is good American food, of course. Barbecued anything, spicy creole food, Tex-Mex, delis, even midwestern casseroles can be great if they're done right. It's the love of highly processed, manufactured food that confuses and actually saddens me.

Personally, the only lines I will draw in terms of what I will and won't try are these:

1. I won't eat anything that is still alive
2. I won't eat heads or any part of a head (brains, eyeballs, etc.)
3. I won't eat bugs

That's about all.
