Give food, money, toys, time, whatever you can. It doesn't matter, just do something.

I personally donate to the USMC Toys for Tots program and have since I was in the 8th grade. I'm 33 now by the way.

My wife and I also donate to food banks and help feed the needy when we can.

Please...think of the people who haven't been as blessed as most of us here have been. Do something....it doesn't matter what...just give something back to the world.

Everyone list their favorite charities here and let's get ATOT to make a difference. Maybe the Mods can sticky this thread so it will be an easy place for everyone to get an idea about where they can go or what they can do to help.

Some of my favorite charities I donate to are:

Toys for Tots

The Salvation Army

Feed the Children

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Armed Forces Children's Education Fund

How come Children's Hospital needs donation? It's not like their doctors don't make six figures and make enough revenue they don't have the money to allocate for their own goods.

When I was a scout leader for my son's Cub Scout Den, we used to do food drives and visit hospitals singing carols and such.

Now, I pick a name off the giving tree every year. I try to pick teenagers since everybody picks the little kids. Last year the 14 year old got a GameBoy Color and a coupla games, 5 pairs of socks, 3 camp shirts, and a pair of Sketchers shoes.

My work this year isn't doing the giving tree so I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do. I'll tell you right now I won't have anything to do with the Salvation Army. My wife and I were just starting out, she was pregnant, and we didn't have a bed. Went to the local Salvation Army to see if they could sell us a mattress for what we had (like $20) so my pregnant wife wouldn't be sleeping on the floor, and they told us to "Go away and come back when you've got some money." :|:|:| I had just started a job, and it took well over a month to get caught up with rent and such so that I could go buy a mattress. Wanna guess where I didn't buy it? :|

Ouch! Damn...sounds like the Salvation Army in your area sucks ass. I've dealt with the one local to me for about 10 years now. I first got involved with them when I was coaching a little league team. They really helped one of the boys that played on my team out. His family was in bad, bad shape and they helped them out with food, clothes, etc... I guess there are good and bad chapters to every charity.

Last year, I dropped half eaten hotdog in a street trashcan and the homeless pick it out of the trashcan and ate it. So I did this for about a week.
Basically I fed a homeless for a week.

I'm going to heaven..

One of the local TV stations here has done a "coats for kids" drive for as long as I can remember. I always try to buy a coat or two to donate. This year we gave them a ton. My wife is the Imelda Marcos of coats and she went through hers and donated 27, yes 27, coats to the charity.

It's just heartbreaking to see all these kids without the basic necessaties of life. I had so much when I was growing up, a spoiled brat really, and to see children who have nothing is just depressing. Especially when you see these children in such a condition and their parents don't seem to give a damn.

I'm donating every month to some charities.
I use a monthly automatic transfer (or whatever you call that)

I do it since I started working

I just gave $6 to the march of dimes (they gave me return address stickies!). I give $20 or so to the humane society each year. Pathetic considering my income, I know.

I'm involved with a group of people and we just bought a bunch of stuff for some christmas angel girl, but on a more personal level I think mrsskoorb and I will buy some decent gift for a kid who's dad is a hair away from death by cancer, and we'll probably buy a bag of groceries from a grocery store (they pre make them). I feel compelled to spend money at christmas and since I have what I need, I might as well spend it on some others.

I wanted to buy that kid a gamecube but they are no longer $80/piece!

Bump for the afternoon crowd.

Come on people....this is important....let's keep it near the top since the Mods don't seem to care enough about the poor to make it a sticky.

I did my part, gave to a local youth center some warm clothes and a computer so then can access the net .
I'm trying to think what else i can do.

In Washington state, thse people supply food to many local food banks: Northwest Harvest

I'd much rather give money to a food bank to help moms feed their kids, than $1 to a street bum so he can get a 40 oz.

Around here our Ambition throws a non-perishable item in the donation bin at Christmas and then pats itself on the fvcking back because it thinks it's done something decent...

Or you could also donate to United Way, and kick the gift 'horse' in the mouth.

They might be able to treat more uninsured kids with the money they get from donations. Probably not though.

Charitable organizations get a nice boost during the holidays, but often are in the cold the rest of the year. Not to dis the thread:heart:
