Do they make Computer 2.1/5.1/7.1 speakers with optical/coax digital input?

Are there any computer speakers, with integrated high-quality DACs and amps, in a self-contained unit, that don't require an expensive receiver, and plug directly into either a coax or optical digital output from your motherboard?

I don't really want to spend heavy on a receiver, amp, and separate speakers.

Are there any that sound "decent"? Better than analog speakers connected to the onboard audio's analog outputs?

Edit: I found this one, it was the only 5.1 system listed under Computer Speakers in Newegg, that explicitly mentioned coax and optical digital connections. A little pricey for me though. I was thinking of something under $200, if possible.

Edit: Oh, and that wimpy AC power cord on the sub/main amp module, doesn't look like it will handle 500W to me, seems a pretty thin cord for 500W.

You're asking for quality DAC+AMP+Speakes I think you won't find anything at your $200 budget. Audioengine has some quality powered speakers for that money but it is only stereo; and you need to spend at least $150 for a descent DAC. If money is an issue the better option is to get a good sound card (I think you can get some of the asus xonar for around $70), that way there will be more options in powered speakers.

I dunno about modern offerings but my Logitech Z-5500's have the capability. I have a nice soundcard though so I run them on analog.

yea if you want a dac, maybe get one of those pocket amps, they sound decent and you can bring it with you on the go.

But best money spent would be on a budget receiver which is MILES better than any sound card you could buy.

if it was me I would just get a cheap 5.1 or 7.1 audio reciever and a decent pair of speakers and just use my motherboards optical out that way and let the reciever do all the decoding and encoding for you.

Not 2.1, just 2.0, but Behringer MS20s or MS40s would fit the bill in your price range. (Depending on sale price, etc. The MS40s are just 40w speakers vs. 20w. They look the same.)
