Do they make wireless printers ?

I was wondering if they make wireless printers or even better, is there a way to make an exisiting pirnter wireless by use of something they sell ?

You can get a 802.11b print server or get a Bluetooth print server.... You'd probably choose the 802.11.

If I have Windows XP and an older HP Officejet PRinter, is there a way to have this printer receive a print job with a wireless adapter ? Not sure what a 802.11b printer server is.

That's what the printserver is for......

It's just a small little box that facilitates printing without a cable. It usually has a power brick to plug in, and you can get the printservers with either parallel or USB depending on the printer itself.

There are also non-wireless Print servers that allow you to use Ethernet/CAT5 to USB/parallel for printing.

You are going to spend in the neighborhood of $100++ for a wireless printserver of any kind. You will then need to figure out the networking end of it - which is fairly simple, but for a newbie can seem complex up front.

802.11 b is just the defacto mainstream wireless networking spec out there on the market today. Just about any wireless router or access point you buy or already have will support it.

jaytone, I just installed that linksys wireless print server (2nd post down) with a Brother 1240 laser and it worked well (in parallel mode .... stupid brother printers need a special driver for usb mode and I don't think that's possible for the print server to use). It's able to use the infrastructure wireless mode (you will need a wireless access point(router/hub/whatever you want to call it) and the print server) or in an ad hoc mode (you will need the print server and a wireless nic (pci, usb, whatever type of plug you want) for the computer.... the signal doesn't have to go through a hub).

You do understand that setting up this print server means that all computers using that printer will have to use the network/print server interface... any coworkers will have to reconfigure to use the print server/network based printing.

HP has a 5510 4 in 1 thats wireless, as well as a 3685 (?) that is just a photo printer which is wireless
