To clarify: I typically use microwave bacon because it's (1) quick and (2) gets crumbly from being crispy. A typical box of microwave bacon comes with about 10 slices. They're pre-cooked, so all you do is place them on a paper plate in the microwave between two sheets of paper towels & nuke them for like 40 seconds. Pat them dry, then crumble them up by hand.
I tried using bacon bits in the jar, but they're too chewy on the teeth in this recipe. I also tried making regular bacon from a package, which works if you don't mind spending 10 or 20 minutes making fresh bacon. But because the box of pre-cooked bacon only takes a couple of minutes to cook the whole package & it comes out so nice & crumbly, I just use that as my shortcut method!
