Do we loose muscle if we stop taking supplements?

My gym trainer advised to take protein supplements(and not purchase from them, surprisingly) to meet my daily protein goal.

My question is, will I loose the muscle I am going to build up with the help of protein supplement if I stop taking them when I am all bulked up(to an extent)?

if you keep training and keep your calories up, you will keep your gainz. Your protein powder isn't too high on the list of importance

Supplement doesnt really matter as long as you hit your macros and calories

Supplements are called just that; because they are supplemental. You do not NEED them at all to maintain or get the gainzzZz in the first place.

I'm currently meeting my daily protein goal with 0% protein powder supplement. All I do is eat chicken, beef and turkey.

To go by thumb rule of 1gm protein per pound of your weight, my protein goal would be around 160gm.

Will eating 2 pounds chicken daily will help? since it provides around the same protein amount

not quite sure about cheaper. Some proteins are well over $1 serving... some over $2.

You can buy chicken breast in the $2-3/lb range...

chicken breast is clearly a better value in terms of protein for the money.

Even if upfront it's cheaper (can't say I've seen a cheap quality protein powder, not to mention the fillers you might get with a cheap powder), I believe it'd be more expensive in the long run since you will still want to eat anyway. A protein shake won't make you feel full vs half a breast of some bird.

They're only supplemental so there's no point if you're eating and achieving the macros you want to hit.

I've read from numerous sources online that protein is overrated. The 1 lb. of protein per body weight is bunk. I've also read that their might be a high risk of getting cancer when eating a high protein diet.

The 0.64g/lb would be 102g, so realistically, you should be fine between 102 and 130 g per day.

I've found this to be true. Over the past 6 months or so, I haven't had more than 1g/lb body weight, and usually a lot closer to .8 and I have had no issues with strength gains really. I've supposedly gained 8lb of LBM since last August, but this was a caliper test and isn't really super accurate.

I look at it like this... science is useful, but when it comes to building muscle, I find a little bro-science can be just as useful.

Not everyone is the same and stating no benefit over .82 grams is way too generalized. when it comes to building muscle/size, calories are what one needs to be concerned with in the big picture. eat more, get bigger, eat less get smaller. As you break that down into where our calories are coming from there becomes an issue with your .82... I for one start getting fatter if I consume more than 250 grams of carbs in a day (if done so regularly) I still need to hit 3000 calories in a day and if I know I have to limit my carbs, I only have fats or proteins to make up the rest....

Sure chicken breast isn't overly cheap compared to something like rice, but even at a lb o chicken a day that's only around $3/day..... hardly what I consider expensive. I eat over 1 gram of protein per lb a day and I eat for around $10 a day. Not sure if you have shop veges or fruits, but protein is not usually the most expensive part of my food consumption

and just for 'its and giggles, post up pics of your build. I would assume you eat no more than .82grams/lb and must have fairly impressive build?

Yeah this is where I'm at too. I don't really try to calculate what I need based on my bodyweight. I just try to hit ~150g per day at a minimum. No scientific reason for that, it just feels like it ought to be enough. I have some vague notions of needing 1g per lb of lean bodyweight, so it's probably around that amount I'm guessing.

Like you, I often find myself taking in FAR more than that just because I need to take in a certain number of calories to keep growing and I'd much rather that be proteins and fats than carbs if I can help it. I don't find myself getting fat if I eat a lot of carbs so long as I stay under a certain number of calories though, just hungrier all the time. Of course that ultimately leads to me getting fat.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'll post a pic anyway because I'm proud of my progress. I'd be interested in seeing your build as well. I'm about 185lbs in that picture. It was taken a couple of weeks ago.
