In the other thread, we have people saying a 15 year old should be let off easier because he's young and didn't know better.
In an OT thread, there were those who got outraged at the person who fired a crossbow at someone who threw a rock at a moving vehicle.
In both instances, I felt the punishment fit the crime, as did many others, but it's shocking to hear others chime in saying the criminal should have been dealt with in less harsh ways.
But that's just the problem with our society today. The current system is not enough of a deterrent for would be criminals. The risks and consequences for committing a crime mean nothing to criminals.
Incarceration is doing nothing for them, except hardening them.
Look at the recent riots in the UK, and our flash robbers. They just did not think they would get caught, or that nothing would happen to them if they did because everyone else was doing it.
In Iran, they would've had their arms cut off. Rapists would've had their dicks chopped off. In Singapore, they would've been caned.
Personally, I think both of those methods is far more effective than our judicial/criminal system and would gladly welcome it.
To me, it's quite simple. Don't want to be shot, maimed, have limbs amputated? Don't commit a fucking crime. Don't give me this BS where people don't know wrong from right. Once they see the consequences of committing a crime, they will think real hard about whether it's worth it or not.
If this is too inhumane for you bleeding heart liberals, how about banishing all violent criminals to an uninhabited island where they can never leave, but have full freedom on the island.
they can choose to live together in harmony as a functioning society, or kill each other off.
