I think I eat a pretty healthy diet mostly. I have not taken vitamins in years and rarely get sick. I usually recover quick if I do get sick.

However, my mother died from brain cancer and my Dad was just diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a month or so ago. Maybe I should take something? But, what the hell to take?

Maybe some Omega 3's?

If you eat oily fish on a regular enough basis, you've probably already got omega-3 covered.

Isn't type 2 diabetes the easily avoidable one?

T2D is directly correlated with carbohydrate intake. Choose your macronutrients foods (fat, protein) carefully. Then additional small amounts of organ meats, fish and select veggies will help your micronutrient goals too.

Remobz.... If you are over 40 then many doctors will tell you to take Vitamin B complex.
It is just natural for men over 40 to have low levels. Taking Vita B will make you feel normal again. If you are under 40 then do not worry about it unless you are a heavy drinker.

A healthy balanced diet can probably get you most things you need, but small things like iron, magnesium, zinc etc are still hard to get. They aren't totally crucial, but I still take a multi every day to make sure I am getting enough.

A balanced diet will generally get you everything thing you need. Vitamins for the sake of vitamins (when you are not deficit) have no scientific benefit to maintain normal health.

In regard to prevention of diabetes, there are certainly no vitamin for that. Simply reduce your risk of insulin resistance by eating a good diet (moderation of carb intake) and maintaining a healthy weight.

How old is your father? Is he overweight? Diabetes in your family otherwise?

Yup. The only time I would consider taking a vitamin is if my doctor specifically said I needed something (like say an iron deficiency) or if I ate a crap diet & refused to change. OP, you can track your nutrition easily using CRON-O-Meter, just punch in your food & it will show you your vitamin intake:

Yup, heart disease is reversible & most Type 2 diabetes (and strokes) are preventable through dietary adjustments. The problem is, a lot of people would literally rather die than change what they put in their mouths

Eat a balanced diet.

If you think you have a vitamin deficiency, let a doctor check that out and you will know what you have to eat more. Pill vitamins are... crap.

Eat foods with vitamins, and you won't need to take a supplement.
