Surface lots I'll typically pull in but I back in to most parking garage spaces. Fields of vision tend to be obscured by concrete columns, walls etc so seems to me it would be much safer. When people are pulling in and backing in spot selection can get your car positioned passenger door to passenger door with the car(s) next to you minimizing door dings. If everyone pulled in it increases the drivers door to passenger door positioning likely leading to more door dings.

If I had a reverse camera I would probably not mind backing out of a spot so much. Without one it's basically a crap-shoot when you back out of a parking spot in a shopping center. Parked between two larger vehicles, trying to back out while baby momma on her cell phone strolls past clueless with a line of kids stretched out behind her. Can't see the kids, don't know how many are coming, nope much safer to back in when you have clear vision instead of just rolling the dice coming out blind.

My work heavily encourages backing in to park, it is part of or driver training. In fact if you are driving a company vehicle and not backing in you better have a good reason or you will get written up, I have never seen someone come up with a good enough reason.

Almost never, but I did actually last night...at a hotel and the angle of the spot and direction I was going would have made it very difficult to pull in - drove by a few feet and backed in. Honestly never gave it much thought and had no idea people had such strong opinions on parking.

Yeah, it doesn't matter to me at all how other people park. Only reason I do it at work is to avoid damage to my front bumper cover. Otherwise I usually just pull straight in.

But to all the people complaining about us reverse parkers. Most of us can park perfectly in one shot almost as fast as just driving forward in. The reason why we take a long time are because of the idiots behind that attempt to squeeze pass as we attempt to reverse park. I'm being an ass and park extra slow as a result of their impatience. If they only kept some distance and just let us park in reverse, we'll let you go on your way sooner.

Maybe of you park in forward the Caps would get to the Stanley cup. Ever consider that?

I back in if I'm parking for a concert or football game, anything that will be a cluster afterwards.

I always back in to my driveway or parking spaces, unless I can drive in, and then drive out. Like in parking lots I typically just find a spot with two facing spots open and drive in to the opposite one. Makes it easier to come out forward when visibility is low when snow has accumulated on the car/road and sometimes I need to gun it to not get stuck as snow will have accumulated around the car too. In the summer months I just end up following the same habit because I'm so used to it.

Very often I either back in, or pull thru a double spot so I can drive out, I hate backing Out of a parking spot,
although having a back up camera helps!

I help a person out that has a store, he has a loading dock,
I have to back the truck into the garage so it can be unloaded.
There is not a lot of room, and the truck is a 1988 International
standard shift, 10 speed, and the truck has no backup camera etc.

I got a text message last week, asking if I could stop by before they closed,
another delivery person drove the truck out, so he could back in his small box van to make a delivery;
the other drive said oh my this truck is standard shift and huge.
He was not able to get the larger truck back inside. LMAO.

After driving vehicles for over 40 years and medium sized trucks since 1980,
yes I can back up to a parking spot or loading dock; and prefer to.

I always try to pull through, and I always back in at my house. My old school ticketed for that, so never backed in there. The only times I usually don't back in are in parking lots with the angled spots. I'd have to totally move my car around to get in so it's not worth it. Or if someone is behind me, I'll just pull in.

I have a backup cam and parking sensors but my first ever accident was me backing into someone. They got behind me and stopped while I readjusted my steering (I was already nearly 1/4th the way out) and I didn't check again, and then hit them.
