In a recent poll just under half of the participants voted that they believed in God ("God" was capitalized in the poll). In this poll over half are saying that they believe in some kind of spiritual karma. More people here believe in karma than God? Admitted the poll didn't make clear what God, but no particular god was implied. In another poll nearly three quarters of the voters said they didn't believe that everything happens for a reason, which is exactly what karma is. Sure the samples are not very large, but let's face it, it's the same people voting in all these over and over again. What's going on?
Can you even have karma without a "god" figure? I can see someone believing that the universe is reaching balance in a yin/yang sort of way, but the ability to judge our behaviors as deserving of "good" or "bad" karma implies intelligence and consciousness, which essentially gives us a god figure. I don't see how you can separate the two.
Do some people just believe in karma because it's trendy right now, without really understanding what that means or implies? I get so confused because these polls send a mixed message every time.
