I don't know about you but I don't walk down dark alleys texting so someone suspicious can get that close to me and surprise me. I kinda notice people checking me out or following me or waiting to get the drop on me. Someone walking towards me with their hands in their pockets or under their shit has a way of getting my attention before they are anywhere near me.

Even when some random harmless looking random dude walks up to me to beg for change or something, I'm watching his hands, and glancing around for potential friends.

One day some guy was road raging and thought he would get out and walk up to my car and share some words with me at the light. While I watching him get out of the car in my side view, making sure it was only him, I was checking out his hands and waist as he started walking toward my door. While this was going on, *my* hands had already unholstered my weapon and took the safety off and placed it in my lap below the window line. He never even saw that weapon, said what he had to say, I replied with "yeah ok man whatever you say" and he went back to his car.

Contrast that with the numb chill you get when you see the same unstable person with a gun walking up to you, YOU don't have one, and are stuck in traffic with nowhere to go, feeling completely fucked. No thank you.

If you take any kind of firearms course, 90% of the course has nothing to do with guns.
That seems kind of really really paranoid and I can see someone acting like that eventually shooting was in no way a threat to them.
Might I suggest moving to an area where violent crime isn't extremely common.

Violent crime happens everywhere.

Should they have moved to a better area? lol, you liberals always have the same retarded argument.

What is your current plan for a home invasion? I'm very interested in your response.

I wonder when thugs and robbers started giving 50 foot notice they were about to rob you so you could unholster your weapon, turn off the safety and fire.

Guaranteed 99.999% of them time they are next to you with a weapon giving you zero time to do shit except be stabbed or shot.

Unless you randomly pull out your gun on everyone who walks within 20 feet in your direction, who also then pulls out their gun and you two fire away and then realize just before you die you were both paranoid civilians.

Carrying a gun on you is about as paranoid and "safe" as wearing a helmet while walking across the road in case you get hit by a car. Why don't you all wear helmets 24/7? Better to have it and not need it right?

At home or possibly in your car is a different story.

Do some of you people not read or watch the news? That's the only explanation I can think of based on some of these comments...

Home invasions happen - yes, even in very nice neighborhoods. Why the fuck do you think that is? oh, because people in nice neighborhoods usually have money and expensive things.

School shootings happen - yes, even in nice areas.

Shootings in malls and stores happen. All of the malls I've been to are in nice are in nice areas.

Hell, even the least likely place I can think of would be a church and there have been attacks and shootings in those!

This shit can happen any where and any time, not just ghettos. nothing wrong with being prepared.

I have 8 rifles in the house, all locked up because it's the law up here in Canada. I always thought that carrying a pistol is a bit paranoid and not worth the hassle but if I lived in an urban location I might consider it.

You need to learn more about situational awareness. You can generally tell their intentions by their body language/eyes.

Most times if you draw down on the bad guy when they are within 20 feet and the weapon is ready to fire by that time. Many modern hand guns have trigger and grip safeties so there is no lever to push, just pull the trigger.

My current plan well... I live in an area safe enough that even leaving the doors unlocked nothing would even get stolen. Again it's called living in a safe area, not just a pseudo safe area but a genuinely safe area.
Oh and expensive does not equal safe if you were wondering.

I clicked it, and for that to happen I would say it's not a safe area. Again I said genuinely safe that would have been a pseudo safe area.

But if you are wondering there is a gun and those stupid loud alarms where I live when not at college

Isn't it a little naive to think that everyone should move and they all should move to areas without crime and those areas without crime are only truly known to you.

I was the victim of a home invasion. It wasn't very pleasant.

I'm not saying everyone should, but if they are going to complain about it, or be all paranoid about it they should.
You should do what you have to for the area, if that means needing full auto weapons for home defense so be it.

I have an 8 year old son at home so leaving loaded guns lying about the house isn't really an option. Nor is wearing one on my person an option...I don't think the parents of my son's friends would feel comfortable dropping their kids off to play.

If you go around "drawing down" on random strangers who you find threatening, you're more likely to end up in jail for "brandishing" a firearm than you are to actually stop a crime.
Are there "bad people" out there? Of course...but with very few exceptions, carrying a concealed firearm doesn't make you safer...except in your own mind.

I'm not anti-gun, I believe in the 2nd amendment, but IMO, too many people think they NEED to carry for their own protection...when in reality, it's more of a "macho thing" than a real need.

The odds are, if you're in a position where you NEED a handgun, you're just going to get that pistol taken at gunpoint along with your wallet, watch, and rings.

That is incorrect. In less than 1% of Defensive Gun Use incidents results in the gun being taken by the criminal. And by the way, 17% of victims in DGU incidents report being injured whereas 30% of victims that offer no resistance report being injured.

If you leave it 'lying around' then you're too stupid to own one anyway. If you treat it responsibly, however, then it's the perfect age to teach the kid about safety and responsibility. He should find friends whose parents heads reside on the outside of their asses. Personally I thank my friends regularly for taking responsibility for my childs safety.
