I don't believe "giving money" fixes anything. In most cases it makes the problem BIGGER.

I also don't believe in "charities" as they are businesses that make money off of donations.

Is he a giving person? Sure

This. It is the welfare solution. Give poor people money instead of the means to escape their poverty, such as education and job training.

As for his 45% of revenue coming from overseas, that is fine. I understand his company is international, I just don't understand why I have to talk to an Indian everytime I call support. I also don't understand why Xboxes have to be made in China and fail %70 of the time. I don't understand why companies that started in America betray it for profit when they are making record amounts of money.

Maybe I'm just stupid....or maybe these people don't love the system that made them who they are.

the wealthy saw him as a villain.

OK, well, I'll give you that. The COMMON MAN saw him as a hero though.

Bill is going above and beyond with is work now. It's like saying "Hey! I got everything in the world now, and I'm going to share it with everyone."

He's donated more money towards AIDS research than the GDP of some small countries

None of these problems are specific to MS. Just about every piece of consumer electronics is made overseas.

The typical american HS grad is too stupid and does not have enough work ethic to be able to assemble an iPad or XBox all day. The training would take forever, building up a decent workforce to do any sort of mass production would be immensely expensive. And if they managed to get that far, the unions would come in, demand exorbitant bennies on top of whatever the existings costs are, and the products would be so expensive no one would buy them. Which leaves us worse off than the current situation of having them made elsewhere.

The Power of Poon: Melissa Melinda Gates has transformed this greedy nerd, who made his billions on the back of the de facto OS monopoly he lucked into, into a smart, targeted and socially conscious philanthropist doing basic, real-life good in the world.

She didn't just save his soul, she gave him one.

This made me lol...

You are correct. Third world children trained to work in factories are much cheaper and have a much better "work ethic" than the average American HS grad.

Also, down with unions. They are evil.

I know, right? I wonder what Nazi camp these people get sent to in order to come up with this ridiculous shit....

You realize that education costs money, right? And that charitable donations often go to educational institutions to open up scholarship opportunities for people who otherwise would be unable to fund their own education?

As for Gates specifically, he was a kickass businessman (which simultaneously made him kind of an evil fuck), and then he flipped around and became a kickass philanthropist (which is the exact opposite of an evil fuck). So, yeah, I'd say he was charitable. He's only given like $25 billion or so to charity....

This isn't an opinion based question where there is an option. Bill Gates has proved time and time again that he is very charitable and a philanthropist unlike the world has rarely seen.

That is a fact.

It's his wife. He is just going along with it if he wants access to intercourse.

According to the Kama Sutra, "access to intercourse" is not a "one-way" street.

Some are forgetting that he also spends a lot of time speaking about and promoting his philanthropic vision.

Who gives a crap...he amassed his fortune because he saw an opportunity. Who says he has to give anything back? How often do you donate money to worthy causes?

I don't think he's under any obligation to give his money away, but if he chooses to do so then he deserves to be praised for the good he's done.

A few years ago I read an article about how Gates's donations made up a huge portion of the money that was going toward malaria vaccine research. If they ever do find a way to actually prevent that disease it'll largely be because of Bill Gates's philanthropy. Finding a vaccine for a terrible disease like that is definitely "teach a man to fish" type giving.

I remember reading Steve Jobs does more good in the world than Gates because "he created more jobs" from an Apple fanboi.

I LOLed.

that's not the question. Only those still blinded by MS hate are going to say he is not one. The Gates give TONS of money to many different organizations.

He is doing good with his money.

He's Robin Hood. He fleeced all the spoiled brats (corporations, governments, populations where a luxury like computing devices is enjoyed in abundance) and is redistributing that wealth to all the people that those spoiled brats act like they care about (share this video and post on Facebook to show you care so much about whatever the current popular cause is, or if you're really a jackass be Sean Penn and try to make it look like you do a lot of good but don't actually do any good). I think its great, especially in light of people like Steve Jobs (who strikes me as almost the polar opposite of Gates in so many ways, Jobs seems so vain and almost outright hypocritical).

It is funny though, how you know actually doing stuff versus just constantly harping about it like Bono makes all the difference in you coming off as a self righteous douchebag or not (to be fair, Bono does some good, but he spends far more time talking about how you need to donate money while he has a lavish lifestyle - its the celebrity/pious hypocrisy).

At the same time though, I dig a guy like Richard Branson who is filthy rich but uses it to do some pretty kickass stuff.

That specific statement you pulled was my response to the welfare solution...not Gates or charity.

I find it hard to believe that some of you can't come to terms with outsourcing a fairly large portion of a GLOBAL BUSINESS.

To get back on topic, Gates is phillanthropic as fuck.
