When I lived in Texas I never owned a scarf. Five years ago I moved to central PA then more recently over to Cleveland. I now own six scarves.

Like I said, I wear jackets that actually cover my neck. Why carry around something as annoying as a scarf when I wear a decent jacket?

Also it might have to do with the fact that I love cold weather. I can go outside in 50 degree weather in shorts and a T-shirt and be fine.

Right now, its a nice 20 degrees and I just came back from a short run wearing a t-shirt and a pair of long pants. Other than the fact that my lungs seem like ice cubes right now, and the top of my skin is about to crack open because its so dry and cold, I feel great.

I like them a lot, since they're actually functional. I have a cashmere scarf from Lands' End (which they no longer carry as of recently) which has served me quite well.

what kind of jacket do you wear?

every jacket I've ever owned has left a gap between the collar and the end of my hat. a scarf fills that gap perfectly. it likewise covers the front of my neck and, if I so chose, my nose, cheeks, and mouth as well without making people want to call the cops on me like wearing a ski mask might.

In chilly weather I wear a North Face that has high collars. It reaches my hairline easily, but I don't wear hats either so I'm not really sure how to explain how tall it is.

The zipper goes all the way up the collar, so I can stick half my face inside my own collar if I want to.

For colder weather, I have a puffier jacket that is essentially the same thing.

I live in Florida. It gets cold (around 20F), but not cold enough for men to traipse around in scarves and not look like a tool, or worse, a hipster.

I have several. All wool blends.

When you make your living outdoors, a scarf is just another layering tool, not a fashion statement. It's got to be pretty bitter for me to break them out, usually February type cold.
