That sounds like a recipe for becoming an alcoholic.

On a side note, being either smashed or sober does seem to somewhat parallel my admittedly naive understanding of bi-polar: You are either high or low emotionally, there is no middle ground. Maybe I am confusing manic depressive disorder, but I think you will get what I am saying.

That certainly does cover it. My life is a combination of excess to one degree or another.

Also, just incase you are interested, Manic Depression is the old name for bipolar disorder! They are one and the same.

I don't want to turn this into "one of them threads" but you admit to getting smashing drunk whenever you drink. How does that reconcile with your stance on marijuana, of which does not lead to such inebriation, addiction, or adverse health effects that your admitted levels of consumption of alcohol does?

Alcohol is a drug.

For the record, I enjoy beer once in awhile, I used to home brew quite a bit as well but can't drink anymore due to an injury and the medication involved. I miss my hops.

Based on HAL's consistently ignorant posts, I'd say he does a lot more than drink heavily.

Yes. Though lately, I try to keep it to Friday and Saturday nights, just for money and health concerns. Excessive beer drinking is a great way to put on some weight.

But sometimes, if it's just too nice a day when I get out of work, all I want to do is go home and have 7-8 beers.

I would agree. Nothing wrong with Pot or Alcohol IMO. Both are drugs, and used in moderation both are harmless. It's when the alcohol, or drugs start running your life that it's a problem.

I've always wondered how much of our drug policy and pharmaceutical regulations was discussed and formed over the infamous congressional "martini lunch". Oh, the irony.

I can't remember the last time I was drunk. I got my drinking out of my system when I was a teenager.

I have a fridge door full of 6-8 month old Corona's and various half-full bottles of liquor at home aging.

Well that makes sense, I'm 23 and currently I don't get hangovers. Unless I've had enough to kill a small animal, in which case I generally remain drunk rather than have a hangover.

You and I both. Last new year's eve I drank about 1/3 of a fifth of Everclear and was barfing my face off at the end of the night. In the morning, however, I was fine if perhaps a little drunk still.

So I've heard.

Never tried it, never will.

It's not even worth your time. I've smoked several varieties and it's not that fun to me. Too stupefying and hunger inducing IMO. Even when I'm totally shit-faced drunk I am still more clear-headed than when I'm stoned.

Most of the pot heads I have worked with are pretty much useless at work, so, yeah, I agree with neckderp on this one.

Pot heads == drunks, and both are equally useless. But just as alcohol can be enjoyed in moderation, so can mj. Both can be abused, and I am not advocating one over the other. I just don't get the hypocrisy that some have in regards to marijuana while at the same time have no problem getting smashing drunk.

Also, I have never heard of someone beating up the wife because they smoked one too many joints. Just sayin...

Meh; to each their own. I have tried it a handful of times, and enjoyed it but have grown out of it now. There are a couple of problems with it. Sometimes you can have a really good time, and other times it can cause panic attacks. It's just too inconsistent. Other thing is that you're either stoned or not. It's not like drinking where you can just have 1 or 2 drinks and have a bit of a buzz. Sure you can be "a little stoned" or "really stoned", but you will be stoned either way.

One is legal, the other is illegal.

No hypocrisy there

The only I haven't tried cannabis is that there is a family friend of ours who has mental health problems, he used to smoke a lot to the point where his paranoia reached such a level that he can no longer leave the house and has been re-diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, IMO if you are predisposed to having mental health issues, then something that has been proven to severely exacerbate, long term those issues is not a good idea.

That is all, it's not because of a moral or legal stance.

Fair enough.

Yet you think alcohol doesn't exacerbate any mental health problems either? People like you are funny.

Like said before, you seriously need help. You have a TON of mental problems and you say you see a psychiatrist weekly but it doesn't seem to be working or you really don't go.

I am funny!, obviously alcohol abuse can cause long term issues, but it's more directly related to physical problems than mental problems AFAIK.

Fixed.

Don't worry about it, I get a lot of help, I have a few problems, but so does everyone. I'm pretty happy.

Usually when a crazy person gets drunk, they get more crazy, not less. So, it would seem that alcohol exacerbates mental health problems, no?

The difference is when a crazy person gets drunk, they get more crazy while they are drunk, not after. In my experience.
