Anand has the most informative and forward-looking in-depth coverage of computer technology. After listening to the first podcast, I can say while it isn't as riveting or entertaining as some other sites (though it is entertaining enough for me) I did pick up advice on what motherboard to choose for my next build, and his (and staff) insights into issues like RMAing hard drives and the increasing time between desktop purchases for most consumers is spot-on.

I'm going to give the other episodes a listen. The AT staff know their stuff, and understand the interests of computer enthusiasts better than most of the big, well known tech sites. They episodes aren't short, but I can listen to them while driving to and from work. I like to vary what I listen to.

EDIT: I do have a complaint about the visibility of the podcast links. Ideally there would be a clear button or link at the top of the page. I had to browser search for the podcast even though I frequent the main page and first heard about it on the forums.

I listened to Anand's first podcast and wasn't sure what to think -- good or bad. Definitely a work in progress. However, I might just give a further listen to a future episode.

Notice how she is a mod and has been here for quite a long time? This might not have been a good plan.

Also, I had no idea that Anand had podcasts. I'll check them out.

this guy doesn't care, at all. trust me. BACK UP PEOPLE, HARD ASS OVER HERE.

I've enjoyed them so far...

I listen to both The Verge (regular) and Engadget's (mobile) podcasts. I feel that Engadget's is hit and miss, but I keep listening. I really like The Verge's coverage of general tech and I enjoy their take on things, but it's really hard sometimes to listen to Josh, Nilay, and Paul constantly interrupt and talk over each other. I zone out sometimes as a result. When Josh was gone for a few weeks and Nilay ran the show, it was quite amazing to actually hear complete thoughts. I'll keep listening though - I've learned a TON about general trends from these guys.

I just started listening to the AT podcast and when Brian starts rattling off numbers, my head explodes, but I'll keep listening to theirs as well. They have a lot of good thoughts and I'll learn more about tech details from the AT podcast than the others.

Anand makes a good point in episode 3 about how tech journalism is becoming dumbed-down by talking heads. Supposed experts who know little but propagate information that they've heard without confirmation or due diligence in investigating the technology in question.

Essentially the same type of commonplace, 24 hours a day news-cycle trash that the public consumes from popular television and other forms of media has started to dominate the tech space. He takes issue with lazy tech journalism, and he's right. Brian proves the point with the next iPhone NFC implementation that really wasn't.

Back when I first signed up here, Anand used to do video reviews. Almost didn't sign up because of it, as I didn't know he was a teenager. And, he was a goofy looking kid.

Bumping this thread because in episode 5 Brian Klug talks about the weird, pleasurable sensation he gets from the iPhone 5

(it's the active noise cancellation)

Good episode, and it's even longer now at 2 hours.
It feels like Anand and Brian into their comfort zone, and I enjoy the little technical details and occasional semi-off topic dialogue about things like how it is in Seol, South Korea.

I never understood what people see in Podcasts.
Never been a fan of them. I've never seen Anand's own for that matter.

I put them on my iPad and fall asleep listening to them. I just got used to listening to Podcasts at night I guess.

No. I couldn't take more than 10 minutes of the podcasts. I enjoy reading tech news and all that, but the content covered on the podcast is not at all interesting to me.

Also, they should seriously cut down on the filesize. One of the episodes was something like 200mb for 1.5 hours of audio.

I have roughly an hour roundtrip commute from work. I load podcasts on a usb drive and listen to them. Beats listening to the radio, and it beats listening to the same music over and over again. Most podcasts are terrible though, but there's still a couple of good ones depending on your interests.

Yeah, that's kind of bad.

Pure speech compresses pretty well. You don't need more than 64 kbps with mp3, 48 kbps with AAC (less than 50MB for a 2 hr podcast), and that's being generous. And it would still sound clearer than radio of course.

EDIT: I posted the above reply on the comments section of the podcast. The file size isn't a problem for me, but some users might have limited storage on their mobile devices, and there isn't a real big need to encode at a high bitrate for music-free audio.

Yea, it isn't a big deal if I were downloading at home, but sometimes I download podcasts on my phone on 3g, and I'll be damned if I waste 200mb of my 2gb cap on a 1.5 hr podcast.

I want to hear them breathe!

In all seriousness, the podcasts are really interesting. I haven't managed to get through them all yet but I hope to over the coming week. I've only listened to the last 3 and they were very good

Ugh, one thing I hate about podcasts is that I keep wanting to hit my push-to-talk key and say something.
