Do you enjoy wine tasting?

My husband and I drove to Temecula Valley to go wine tasting this past weekend, and it was a pleasant experience. I don't normally care for alcohol since it gives me a headache and makes me tired, but the small sips of various wines (6 tastings for only $6-8!) were enjoyable with our picnic of cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and cucumber/sprouts/tomato/lettue sandwiches. It was a lovely, warm summer day, and the tasting rooms were cool and spacious.

The atmosphere was a touch pretentious, but we enjoyed each other's company and had a good time sampling the different wines.

I discovered that I am a fan of cream sherry and riesling. :wine:

EDIT: We visited the Mount Palomar winery, the Miramonte winery, and the South Coast winery.. I would recommend all three, particularly the South Coast winery, if you ever find yourself in/near the area. Many places also allow you to keep your tasting glass, which is a nice perk.

I haven't tried many different types of wine, but after our wedding a few years ago, there were a couple cases of strawberry zinfindel remaining. I realize it is regarded as a "panty remover", but every now and then I like to have a glass late in the evening.

Other than that I'm a wine n00b.

I'm a wine n00b myself, and have never tried any of the zinfindels. Are those the wines that come in a convenient box?

um... not that I know of. I think it's just a type of wine.

That's what I used to think, and I'd still pick juice/water over wine, but if I must drink it at least I know which ones I can stand.

Have you ever tried dessert wines? They're much sweeter and fruitier, and I prefer them over dry wines (which are all "blech!" in my opinion!).

I love wine. My wife and I went to a wine tasting gathering for our anniversary last year. Had a blast.

Some wines are an acquired taste for some people, but when you start noticing subtle characteristics in certain wines, it starts to taste very good.

I like it a lot. I've never tried cream sherry though. A good riesling is nice. You should try the Trefethen Late Harvest Riesling, 2002.

I've been into Riesling and Shiraz for the past 4-5 years..... Twisted
River late harvest is a pretty good cheap Riesling if you can find it.... Some of the most recent years aren't as good. I've ordered it by the case before....good stuff...

I'm not trying to be a hater, but IMHO any zinfindel is basically like boones farm in my book.

It's all about whatever you personally like though so each to their own....

Let's clear this up: White Zinfandel is a picnic wine, a.k.a. redneck wine. Zinfandel (not to confused with White Zin) is a very deep red wine and is one of the most alcoholic of all the wines...and one of the tastiest I might add.

Luna Sangiovese FTW!

I do enjoy it. I'm still a newbie with wine, though. Last night I opened a bottle of Old Moon: Zinfandel. I really like that one, so far.

Eh, I think it is just making something out what is basically a simple act of slight intoxication. Of course, alot of "adult" things are merely childish acts disguised in the trappings of adulthood.

I've had a huge variety of all types of wines (used to serve at a fine dining restaurant, had to taste often) and I hated them all.

Blech, that's not wine. That swill isn't worthy of even the n00biest of wine n00bs.

Strawberry zinfandel definitely falls into the former category though. Someone gave us a couple bottles of that once and I just poured it down the drain without even tasting it.

I like Chardonnays and quite a few different red wines. There are some decent vinyards in Temecula, CA which is only about 30 minutes from my house. We've done some wine tasting there...it's a good time for sure.

I've done most of my tasting in Oregon (pinot heaven) so I tend to like pinot noirs the best. I can distinguish the differences better in them and they really really taste good now. Not sure why that is- when I first started drinking wine I didnt care too much for it, but now it's great.
I also like Cab's, but I dont drink them too often. As for whites, I like drier rieslings and gueverstramiener. ya I'm not even going to try and spell that right =)

I've had some of those but none that really made me go wow, I'll admit, I haven't tried many of them though...My Step-Dad usually buys a bunch of cheap ones when he and my Mom are out visiting and ends up leaving a couple of them behind. Chardonnays still do that to me occasionally though. I've had some nice muscatos and ports also...mmm, yummy.

I do like Cabs and Merlot along with Pinots. Depends on what we're having for dinner which kind of wine I'll have.

Never went wine tasting, but I love some of the names of the newer wines.
