Do you ever find ATOT depressing?

It is depressing to read about things that I will have to encounter in the future. Debt, other money problems, job issues... I am not worried about my personal life because that is actually very stable and has been for the past year.

I also do find it depressing and stupid that many male members flock around the female members.

I find this place depressing because of the rampant stupidity. It seems that there's a total lack of knowledge here.

I go from being on a car forum where people know the basics of how things work, to here, where people say things so insanely stupid I want to cry. This place has changed drastically than from when I originally joined in 1998. People were much more technical then. Now it's flooded by idiotic fanboys.

In almost all threads, I get the sense that not only do people have no control of a situation, then have no control of their own lives. Total defeatists. Non-mechanically inclined people with no conquering ability.. no ability to overcome any obstacle. In a thread about how to do something, I can expect most replies saying how it can't be done, even if I've done it previously.

All in all, it reminds me of the days at grade school, when the lamest of the lamers would sit around playing Dungeons and Dragons instead of playing football or jailbreak. These were socially inept kids who'd fail miserably in the real world, so their only chance of success was in a fantasy land. Fast forward 20 years and these people have found Anandtech and Slashdot, their new fantasy lands.

Some crazies are out there but I have a feeling that most are simply bored people looking for entertainment. Whenever I troll about the Aryan race or whatever it's usually because there aren't any computer games I feel like playing.

Lol, so you make a depressing post. Way to go.

On topic though, yeah, this place has gone waay downhill. Other forums exist that are a lot better, fortunately for those looking for a forum fix.

Some hardware sections here are still okay, as is OT once in a while. But the general tone is fairly melancholy.

Don't get me wrong, I love AT, I'm just not impressed with the quality of most of the newer posters. It's sort of like what I experienced on the Internet when America Online because popular- you had a relatively small number of intelligent people, only to be completely overrun by a tsunami of "me too!" chanting idiots.
