Do you feel bad when your work computer is better than your home computer?

I just built a i7 3770k / Z77 / 16gb RAM / 180GB Intel SSD / FirePro V5900 here at work for myself.

My computer at home is a i7 2600k / Z68 / 8GB RAM / 128gb Crucial SSD / GTX 460

Feels bad man:'(

Maybe... if it'd ever happened.

Even if my work machine was better, $50 says that they'll load it with so much bloatware that it'll be a piece of shit.

My machine right now is running 60 processes. My laptop, even with all the drop protection/ acceleratometer, touchpad, and other things I don't disable is barely at 20-something. And I haven't said anything about the Monday morning virus scans...

That has never happened to me and I do not see it ever happening to me. This thing is a piece.

It's pretty close currently. But I don't really care. 90% of what I do is either remote desktop or terminal.

For those of us that get to custom build our work computers this will be a fun thread. For everyone else, nope.

nope cause it never happens..
they cant afford to build a machine at work that I would use at home.. they don't put dual 680s in work PCs lol.
And they also dont buy gamer class laptops either.

My work computer is slightly better than my home computer, but it's not a big deal. Both are fast enough for whatever I need them to do.

I was going to buy a Dell XPS 8500 i7 3770 but it ended up costing more after I put in the video card and SSD I wanted.

My system is used for Solidworks so it's an overkill

yeah.

after I was upgraded to dual 24" monitors at work, I had to upgrade to the same size at home.

(it was also causing annoying issues when I'd leave work and then try and finish stuff up at home, or start at home in the morning and drive into the office later)

No, not really. I don't have $30k to throw down on a PC. We just ordered a new machine, 12 cores w/ hyperthreading, 192GB of RAM, and a large SSD array.

I hate hose gamer cases so I got a conservative looking case, Antec 302. It still looks big compared to my co-workers computers because they use standard Dell or HP

I'd say my work computer is about equal to my home PC, although they are built for different purposes.

Work PC: i7-870, 8GB RAM, Quadro 600, 500GB HDD

I can't say I've ever run into that situation. Our work computers tend to be 5-10 years older than what is available at the time. They're "good enough" but nothing extra. Running core2duos at work now, these are the "new computers". Some people are still on the P4's. Probably a couple P3's kicking around too. Good thing we're still running XP, they're already slow enough as it is. Part of the issue is all the crap at startup. Takes a good 10 minutes for the computer to "warm up" after it's been turned on. I have about 30 apps to open so It's annoying when it's all sluggish and I'm trying to get everything open. At home it's like 15 seconds from power on to desktop and I can open stuff right away lol. It would be faster if it was not for UEFI bios. Those are so bloody slow. I miss the KISS bioses. POST would be like 2 seconds lol. Now it's like 10.

It's never happened before. I don't imagine I'd care much though, as long as my home computer was at least adequate.

My work computer has generally been about 3 generations worse than any computer I've built, so I've never actually experienced what you're talking about.

I was upgraded at work to an 3.4 GHz i7 Sandy Bridge with 8GB RAM while still use a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz at home.

This was going on for almost 9 months until I finally upgraded my home computer recently to a 3.4 GHz i5 Ivy Bridge.

get a laptop for work. Just got a W520 Thinkpad. Laptops suck compared to desktops... I don't care about the specs behind it... laptops suck to work with. May as well be a tablet.

Don't even have a docking station? I definitely would suck to work on one all day. They're fine for quick things and all but not to sit down and spend hours on it.

I either Synergy over with my desktop mouse/keyboard or NoMachine (Linux) over. Either way, obviously I like the clunky desktop interface devices over a laptop.
