Do you get that feeling when you pick up one of your old phones... and wonder how you lived with that thing for so long? I just had that feeling yesterday after I realized I had some stuff on my "old" 6P I needed to get off of there. I've become so used to the size of the S8 (non-plus) in a slim case that the 6P felt absolutely gargantuan in my hands. I have no idea how I used it on a daily basis, and not even that long ago. It's massive, and not even comfortable to hold anymore.

I had a similar feeling after using the 6P for a while, and then picking up the older Note 4 to find some stuff. The Note 4 at the time was acting sluggish, and I didn't realize how slow it felt until after I used the 6P for a while and then came back to it.

I am using a 6P still, and would like to go back to a smaller device. I just wish smaller devices had large capacity batteries of their larger siblings (like if the S8 had the battery capacity of the S8+). After going through the 6P's extremely poor battery life, I'll most likely end up with a larger device like a Note 8 or S8+.

It is interesting when I pick up one of my old phones. I'd love to take the best features of all the devices and wish someone could create the perfect device (Samsung hardware with pure Google experience/very minimal Touchwiz features).

Yep. I turned on my Galaxy S1 the other day and I couldn;t even connect to the google store as there wasnt any when I used the S1. Just google market which of course didn't work. Its so retro that its useless. And even tho my iphone 7 is the latest, every time I use it I get that feeling. Thank God its a work phone and not my daily driver.

Yes I have my Note 3 (still used up until 2 months ago) still on my side desk here and when I play with it I wonder how I dealt with such a big boxy phone. S8+ is so sleek.

I sold off my Note 3 running official 5.0 and recouped 40% of the initial retail price in 2015. Was a win since no more warranty, performance was already sluggish and runtimes began to suck even with a new battery.

My 4S is now more or less completely unusable except as a dumbphone for my mom, since that was a 2011 phone thats completely expected.

I expect 6.0+ Androids and 2GB+ RAM iPhones to age a whole lot better.

I used to use a Huawei Prism II. Single-core. So yeah.

I also get that feeling whenever I use my tablet. I think it needs reformatting or something.

Yes. Had to use my htc one after my nexus 5x died and it felt like the one was moving in slow motion. It was awful how slow the phone felt. Crazy!

Yup, took out my old Moto G recently to reformat it, whoa... Brutal, and tiny.

I was concerned too, but even though the physical battery size is less my battery life is a lot better on the S8 than it was on the 6P

I got the same feeling the other day when I had to use my old LG flip phone to text my mom. The battery died on my Cosmos 2 mid text so I had to resort back to the old LG. It was a pain to text on that thing. The sliding keyboard, menu layout, and touch screen make the Cosmos so much better. Hard to believe just a year or so ago I was using the LG but I'm glad I've moved on to greener pastures.

Am I the only one here generally happy with my old phones? I try to get phones that have good rom support, so im always running the same OS more or less (CM/Lineage).

The phones Ive owned are:

Samsung Captivate
Galaxy s2
galaxy s
galaxy nexus
nexus 4
oneplus one
nexus 6
nexus 5x

I recently had to go back to my nexus 4 since I sold my phone(s) and had nothing left. It actually felt OK. The screen size seemed small at first, but I feel like no matter what the size I get used to it pretty quickly.

The biggest things it lacked:
camera sucked compared to newer phones
didnt support newer bands (bad service on t-mo where I live)

I know it would end up slowing down over time, but I wouldn't care if I were stuck with it.

I'm still rocking an iPhone 4s. When I was into rooting & flashing phones, the newest phone I owned was a 1st gen Moto G. When the mic died on it, I had to replace it with a 3g native phone that worked on VZ (Page Plus/$12 plan). The iPhone was the best reviewed 3g only phone.

Anyways I feel a bit awkward using newer phones as the screen size has increased over the years. Maybe one of these years i'll spring for a plan with data.....but haven't been able to justify it yet.

When you said "old phones" I was thinking something more like my TYTN 2 or Nokia 6600
Anything Galaxy or nexus would still be fairly usable.
Nope. Galaxy S1 is totally useless. Can browse the web as the built-in browser is so old no website will load. And, you can't install a newer browser because there is no Google Play store. Hell, every time I turn my old S1 on I am afraid it will get raided with viruses and malware!

I have a captivate (same as S1) and if you want to flash a new rom on there, I think you'll be pretty impressed with it (as long as your battery isn't completely dead). Give it a shot.

I had a Nokia 6620, which is the US version of the 6600 (with additional features, EDGE I think is one of them). Used it for a couple of years and then pass it along to a family member who used it even longer than I did. It's built like a tank!

The 'old phone' that I'm keeping around as backup is my Nokia E51. It looks all business but it's loaded with features. It is probably my top 3 favorite phones of all time. I am still charging it every two weeks. Just need to swap in a SIM card if I need to.

I actually like my Motorola Moto G

(2014 version-picked it up for $43 shipped from Amazon in 2015-when the 2015 model was selling for $130 at that time).

I use it more for making calls than browsing the web or watching video, and the smaller size with the 4.3 inch screen is easier to fit into my jeans or shorts pockets.
