The MOTH does a storytelling event once a year at this huge cemetery in Brooklyn, Greenpoint. Ridden by a few times.

It's a mainstage event so all the stories are curated

Been to a bunch of MOTH events but that's still on the list. The few mainstage ones I've been to have all been excellent.

I'm a little obsessed with the new home design right now, but when I get the framing done I can get back to one of my hobbies, woodcrafting.
Here's a return air grille that I diced up with the table saw. Lots o little bits and pieces.
I want to make all the return air grilles in the new house and build them into craftsman cabinet construction.
I have 4 great spots in the new house for some stained glass art, so I may take that up too.

The notion of doing some stained glass crafting has definitely appealed to me, I may yet give it a go.

Nice! That's one seriously huge log.

Hoping to buy and setup a bandsaw mill this summer, though my focus will be on building a cabin and associated buildings and I might just buy the lumber for the initial build just to get it done faster. I eventually want to setup a decent mill though, with kiln and everything and maybe even go commercial.

do you make sure your wet boards, freshly sawn from the log, stay flat when drying, so finished lumber will be flat?

we could collaborate on it.
My sister loves irises.
This is clearly a work of art, but it could serve as inspiration. This was at the national quilt museum in Paducah.

I don't usually because my interest is mainly in quick/crude construction material. That oak I have pictured above is intended for someone else to make a counter with in a stable. I painted the ends to slow drying, and I ratchet strapped them together(with stickers(spacers) in between) to reduce cupping. We'll see how it ends up. There's sawing techniques that can be used to make fairly dimensionally stable boards, but it would be a huge hassle with an Alaskan mill, and I don't have the patience/energy for it.

My last slab I cut in that group will be the one to use for a counter. It's closest to being quartersawn, but a spot in the middle could still warp. Although it's intended to be used as a solid slab. the middle could be cut out, and the edges joined to make a flat surface. Depends on what the guy wants to do. I don't know the exact application, but it's for a stable, not fine furniture, so I doubt it has to be perfect.

I am not setup yet, but yeah, I will need to put spacers between each plank, then ratchet strap them together and let it sit for a while. Though TBH I will probably build with them almost right away initially until I have at least my main structures up, like an outhouse, dry shelter, etc. I'll be camping out of a tent for a while until I have a cabin built too. Summers are short and I only get so much time off so realistically as much as I'd live to have all the buildings I want done by end of summer I doubt that will happen. I'll be happy if I have basic infrastructure like power, running water and a dry shelter. Those things will make camping there and working on stuff much more pleasant.

That's actually pretty cool, never really gave much thought that the way lumber warps depends which part of the log it came from, but makes sense.

I’ve visited over fifty graveyards in the past year, searching for gravestones made of granite from my quarry. I found it in nineteen of them.
I found three more stones today. One was just the base. I don't know what happened to the main stone.
